Thank you Mark. I'm about halfway there.
Hello,
Hi Tom,
I have a 'BM Ultrastudio Recorder 3G' with me and I have it running on MBP 2020, Mac OS 10.15.7 Catalina using HDMI input from a Sony mirrorless camera. The recorder is set to HDMI: 1920x1080p50. There is a short Thunderbolt 3 cable (30cm) running between the computer and the device and a longer HDMI (2mtr) to the camera micro HDMI socket. The video stream can be picked up by Quicktime movie recorder and in Isadora, but not both at the same time. The Isadora setting matches the 1080p 50 setting. BM Desktop Video Setup had a version 11.6.
I also have a Thunderbolt 2 BM Ultrastudio Mini Recorder with me and that is running on a MBP 2015, OS Mojave using the Desktop Video Setup 11.5.1.
I don't have machines with High Sierra anymore, so that is as far as I can go.
Best Wishes
Russell
Hi,
I am using Isadora three times each week to stream video from a Sony A7rII via a BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder through Isadora and out to Blackboard Collaborate. This has become progressively more dysfunctional to the point where it is no longer reliable and I am searching for an alternative setup.
I can’t put my finger on the point in the chain Where the problem/issue resides.
Initially, there were issues with audio quality - I started by routing audio through the camera audio input and out via the hdmi feed to the mini recorder. My mic is a senheiser lapel transmitter/receiver system. After getting really bad audio using that method, I then brought in a mini mixer with USB audio interface a Beringer 802USB. This improved the sound quality but introduced out of sync audio in the stream through Blackboard. Anyway still better than bad audio.
The real problems began when I intermittently had a black video stream when activating the stream in Blackboard Collaborate. It was impossible to trouble shoot because the video set up preview in the Blackboard Collaborate interface showed the stream as functioning. But when I activated it for live viewing it appeared black!!!??? Wtf.
At that point I started searching for a stream setup that was more reliable. I tried switching to syphon instead of using NDI. But as I implemented each new test stream the issue became progressively worse to the point where Isadora 3.07 will not even launch without instantly crashing.
I guess there is a lot more I need to do to resolve the setup. Perhaps reinstalling the NDI and OBS utilities-I have tried deleting Isadora preferences and a fresh install a couple of times but still I have no joy in launching Isadora 3.07.
I am half way through a 14 week semester where I am delivering subjects in digital imaging and creative practice to students who are locked out of face to face teaching due COVID-19.
The sessions toggle between the video stream from the Sony A7rII and the screen cast of software (Adobe) and the live view of a second A7rII used for photography and digitisation demonstrations.
I am feeling a bit stuck as I need this system up and running by first thing Monday morning.
Any advice welcome
Best wishes

I trusted this discussion :
I have a GoPro Hero Black 6, which works fine with Isadora, given the right connectivity. It only outputs in 1080, you can't get 2k or 4k out of it.
The issue with GoPros from v6 onwards is that they messed with the HDMI output / handshake protocol so IME its very fussy about how you connect it to Isadora. And also very fussy about how you connect it to anything. (it will output to, and I can record to some of my Atomos external recorders but not others!). My ancient Hero Black 3 gives much more reliable HDMI output, and is more reliable / consistent in its connectivity. Sadly the picture image is miles better from the Hero Black 6. I have heard enough negative things about the Hero 8 and the MediaMod that allows you to output by HDMI that I have decided a) not to get one and b) to look elsewhere for my next 'action cam'.
I simply cannot get the GoPro to play nicely as in input to any HDMI switcher (with an exception - hold on*) with other cameras connected to other HDMI inputs, so I have to have the GoPro 6 on a separate, dedicated input to the computer.
Best result, ridiculously, is by attaching the GoPro to a Blackmagic HDMI to SDI Microconverter then taking the SDI out of that into a Blackmagic MiniRecorder connected to the computer via Thunderbolt. I think that running it through the HDMI to SDI converter re-clocks it to an 'acceptable' signal.
My Intensity Shuttle's HDMI input and the GoPro do not play nicely together.
*I get good results when the GoPro is attached to my ATEM Mini Pro, which is seen as a webcam by Isadora. It's a proper 1080p input, with a decent bandwidth. And again, the reason why I think it works is 'cause the ATEM reclocks every input signal.
HTH. Let me know if I can help further.
Cheers

UltraStudio Recorder 3G
I am guessing this is your cable, remember that even though thunderbolt 3 cables look exactly the same as USBC cables on the outside they are very different (and much more expensive) make sure you have a legit thunderbolt 3 cable and one that is rated to carry the power requirement of the ultrastudio.
This may help

For the record these are the settings I am using for the Sony A7rII and the Blackmagic ultra recorder:
Camera Sony A7rII + usb power / needs charged batteries as well, Camera setting PAL 1080i 25fps, Camera has micro HDMI output, Blackmagic ultrastudio mini-recorder ful-size hdmi input/ output to thunderbolt 2 cable, Macbook pro 2015 thunderbolt 2, Isadora3 software to capture from the Blackmagic device, Patch VideoIn Watcher to Projector actor, Stage Set-up enable audio video output to NDI video, Blackboard Collaborate software recognises NDI after enabling NDI utility.
best wishes

As I said, the signal has to be an SDI signal you are feeding an analog signal that the mini Recorder cannot read. The BNC adaptor has nothing to do with the signal you are sending over it. So your composite signal will not work with the ultra studio.
I am not sure why you can choose two different Mini Recorder in the "device" selection in Isadora. But as soon as you select one it will not be available in the other channels, it can only be selected once.
One thing about the Blackmagic devices is that all settings have to match, if your computer outputs 1080p 50Hz via HDMI you have to set HDMI as input in the Desktop Video Setup software from Blackmagic and select 1080p 50Hz in Isadora for it to show up. On this website you can see what resolutions are suported https://shop.schweizervideo.ch.... remember SDI and HDMI have limited resolution support.
You can download the Media Express Software from the Blackmagic website. As @bonemap said first trouble shoot with the original software form Blackmagic to be sure all settings are right.
I have a mini Recorder and it works fine when all settings are right.

Hello there, I am running a macbook pro retina Catalina 10.15.6 -mid 2014 Izzy 3.0.7, I have recently purchased the ultrastudio mini recorder to receive a live feed into izzy. I have installed the driver, which is showing up in the izzy live capture settings. I have also installed the Desktop video setup software for the device. Izzy is recognising the ultrastudio as an input device however no signal is coming through on the preview window nor through the video input watcher....I am not sure what else to check, or how to troubleshoot from here on...any help much appreciated. thanks, Leben
