I have a the UltraStudio Mini Recorder it has SDI and HDMI input and costs $ 145.- I use it with my Sony a7s, works great. I am on a Mac, so if you do not have a thunderbolt connection on the PC you are better of with an USB device from Blackmagic. But I don't know how well BM performs on PC.

I worked on a show recently where we used two of those Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Recorder and two cameras that were identical to eachother and they both showed up separately. I cannot give you a 100% guarantee that your cameras will not misbehave, because my cameras were not the same exact make and model as yours, but what I'm saying is that I did something very similar to what you're asking about and it worked.
You can't directly input an HDMI signal into your mac. You need a capture device for that. For example an Ultra Studio Mini Recorder. Make sure that the HDMI output of the camera matches the supported ones of your capture device.

Hi there. I have gone trough a few threads about the BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder. In Resolume Arena the capture function works great, but there I also have the option to chose SDI or HDMI in put. But in Isadora the Input Settings... is greyed out. Any one have a solution to this?
I use a camera that outputs: 1080i 59.94
I have tried both the Apple Drivers and BMD Drivers and I'm on the MacOS 10.12.5
All the best. Erik
I guess most hardware mixers do have an out (that's the job they are made for), so I don't see any problems for the tv/editor to give you one cable (HDMI/SDI) and you will get what he selects to go out. What you need on your side is a capture device like the Ultra Studio Mini Recorder from Blackmagic (https://www.blackmagicdesign.c...).

I am doing a project where I need a live video input coming in over BNC. I understand that Isadora can work with Blackmagic and the UltraStudio Mini Recorder. I am wondering if there is any other video input interfaces out there that are cheeper that would also do the trick. I have tried to use a USB webcam with a usb extender but because of the length of run, that doesn't seem to be a good solutation. Wondering if anyone knows of a cheeper video input interface that works with Isadora? Also is there anyway to use a POE IPCAM for live video input into Isadora?
What kind of Mac are you using? You might be best off using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and then an HDMI to SDI converter to get your signal into the Atomos converter. Black Magic among others makes such a converter for less than $300. This will allow you to get the full power of your computers CPU and GPU for processing video and then you should get a clean all digital signal into the recorder. If you had another thunderbolt equipped Mac you could also try skipping the converter and Atomos and going from the HDMI adapter into the Black Magic Ultrastudio and into a second computer to capture the Isadora output.
If you go with USB3 go to the blackmagic forums and check your USB3 chipset is supported. Most of the earlier controllers came in under spec and were not fast enough to capture HD. Are you on mac or PC? I would opt for thunderbolt every time if you have the capability. You can then use the ultrastudio mini recorder.
Hi Graham,
