However, every time I try to open the tutorial file provided Isadora crashes. I don't know if this is because the files aren't compatible with my version of Isadora, or if it's because I don't currently have an Isadora license. I'm really hoping to work with a 3D puppet. Does anyone have any idea as to why this might be happening? Or any other way I could achieve the same results?  Any help is appreciated.

Yes.  I have however invested a great deal of time learning UE4 to this point (not to mention sizable investment in 3D model assets).  Although a good deal of basic concepts will transfer to Unity, having to relearn 3-years of investigation makes me pause.

I am also waiting to see what happens with the Epic-Apple issue.  If support continues to fall away for Apple from Epic... I will switch to Unity.
