I recently had a friendly interaction with the people that make Epoccam, an app that allows you to send video from your iPhone or iPad to Isadora. They have acknowledged that there is a problem with their drivers for 10.8\. But also they initiated a discussion with me about features that Isadora users might want.

It seems the plan, to make their app more universal, is to send the video via Syphon -- which will be good for Isadora since she now supports Syphon directly.

But they also wanted to know if users were interested in support for _multiple_ cameras at the same time.

They also were curious if there were other features that people might like to see.

So, if you have some thoughts, please chime in here, as they will be following this post.

Reply to Epoccam Feature Requests for Kinoni? on Thu, 19 Feb 2015 19:31:19 GMT

how about epocam working with a galaxy 5 phone-All it does is turn my screen black.

Thanks for the feedback. Answers to your questions:

1) Answered already, thanks Skulpture.

2) Dimming the screen is a feature asked by many users. Maybe we should implement it so that after a minute screen dims and touching it activates the screen again. Not sure how much battery that would save though, sending video over WiFi seems to drain the battery.

3) We have studied OSC support a bit, and it looks like a massive task to implement controlling all camera parameters. At this point adding this feature does not look like viable business decision.

4) In general 5GHz WiFi channels are less crowded that 2.4GHz channels, but 5 GHz WiFi has less range. It really depends on your environment if there are many WiFi networks and WiFi users sucking the bandwidth. One feature we are looking at is direct connection between phone and Mac, eliminating need for wireless router. Not sure how well this works for multiple devices, need to do some testing on it.

Kinoni

Reply to Epoccam Feature Requests for Kinoni? on Sat, 17 Jan 1970 08:14:22 GMT

Hi guys,
I can answer your first question.
iPhone and iPad have a built in kiosk mode, I have used this many times and it's really helpfull.

First you have to enable “Guided Access” in your iOS settings

Open “Settings”

Go to “General” > “Accessibility”

Tap on “Guided Access” (Scroll down the page a little, it’s under the “Learning” section)

Flip the switch to “ON”

**
Way number one:**
Open the app of your choice (epoccam) tripple klick the home button, know klick on start and enter a passcode. This prevents people to close the active app, but they can still change the settings.
To leave the kiosk mode tripple klick the home button again and enter the passcode.

Way number two:
Open the app of your choice (epoccam) tripple klick the home button, now draw a circle or a rectrangle with your finger around the buttons you want to be locked, click continue. Know the chosen areas a locked.
To leave the kiosk mode tripple klick the home button again and enter the passcode.

Best
Michel

_I'm quite new to epoccam and syphon, but here are my feedbacks and requests
I'll be using softs on piece involving dancer in part of a whole performance, ( www.le-spang.fr )

_1- Is it possible to lock screen so that dancer doesn't interact disconnect or change option in the touch screen ( 3 taps on symbol to unlock would be good don't you think?)
2- is there a way to save more battery by de-activate the phone screen and leave it black? (despite locked mode remains camera connection impossible?)/ being able to switch on the stream via osc to save power?
3- will we be able to freeze the focus of the cam or even controll it via osc ? ( I saw it was questionning for the flashlight already... )
<edit/ focus can be blocked on multicam version
4- Wifi routeur: I saw a few recommandation but does anyone has a specific model / brand to advice to get the more stability brandwidth on multicam inputs? which chanel / band to use to get more trust in crowded public performance?

Thanks to all, and Bravo Kinoni to work closed to isadora, it is a great thing !

But if you only have 802.11g on the mac, then you are better off with 802.11n router for wireless cams and hardwire to the mac (or even 802.11ac, maybe overkill).

Better / more antennaes on the router would give you better overall performance... you can set the channel / frequency to get the best signal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11n#Data_rates

But don't you need to eat up a thunderbolt port with an ethernet adapter? That seems like a waste! Sounds like you have a MDP macbook, hopefully with ethernet port...

On the other hand, I've found in times past that display port interfered with macbook wifi antennae. Also advantageous to put the antennae (router) where you want it (closer to stage and cams, away from power cables and other transmitters) and the macbook where you want it... dedicated components always have a bit of an advantage.

Many lighting situations in theater are "low light", but not all of them - my guess is that that a manual option would be sufficient for most of us. Maybe someone else wants to comment?
Just received my new iphone 5S. Works well in terms of speed, colors and stability, but the quality in low-light situations is much worse than the 4S and 5 models (video is much, much darker). It seems to be a software problem, because the MoviePro app allows me to use the 5S video mode perfectly in low light conditions.
Your MultiCam app works beautifully with my 2 cameras in HD quality, by the way :-)

Related to performance in general we have noticed that newer iPhones work better in general - there is a big difference between for example iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 in delay (faster video processing and network), quality (camera hardware) and stability (no CPU overload causing network timeouts). Also our other iOS test devices such as iPad 2 and iPod touch (4th generation) much perform worse than iPhone 5\.
