This helps shed *some* light. BUT... I have heard from two reliable sources that two very big media server companies are working/researching/exploring alternatives because they have heard other news too. As always, I will be happy to be wrong - because I like NDI, and I'm only sharing information third hand here, but two of my graduate students, separately, work in two big media server companies. Sorry to be cryptic but I can't name names or those companies. Any information I hear I will update everyone on.

I think we just need to be cautious moving forward.

Skulpture

Reply to Open Media Transport on Sat, 13 Dec 2025 00:49:31 GMT

@skulpture said:

Yeah I've heard from reliable sources that NDI is on it's way out - moving to a paid subscription.

Thankfully I can confirm this is not the case. This summer, there was confusing messaging from NDI on this indicating that they may require commercial software to pay for a commercial license of their SDKs, but after the strong negative response, they immediately clarified that the free SDK is here to stay.

liminal_andy

Reply to Open Media Transport on Thu, 11 Dec 2025 10:59:58 GMT

@thomas-parb said:

It is something I have looked into previously. As you said with little hardware support, it isn't something that is high priority for use right now, but that could change with adoption. I will make sure this is in our feature request database so that it can't be forgotten.

DusX
