thanks @juriaan - i definitely understand this is not top priority. Izzy users are generally interested in live realtime connectivity and spatial, physical interaction, rather than directly outputting recorded media content. 

It took a while for me to understand the difference, because when I first started using it, I couldn't believe there wasn't a 'Record Out' function. Now I get it. And it's no surprise. There's a reason, as Mark reminds us, for the name of the software itself. It comes from dance performance culture. And it's fab.

But for me, the 'liveness' of Izzy also makes it a powerful media production tool where you can 'perform' editing actions live and use media to trigger events within the edit, as it is 'recorded'. It behaves differently from Max/Jitter, Touchdesigner, VDMX or AfterEffects, etc and it gives a different aesthetic. So recording out is more important for me than others. No problem. 

The good news (update) is that i finally got midiStroke to work after @jandraka (many thanks!) suggested it months ago. Thanks also to you @juriaan for what i guess is the Windows equivalent in this thread..? 

For some reason midiStroke wouldn't recognise Isadora Virtual Out, but suddenly it does. Maybe a Catalina update..? Probably my error. I don't have much Midi experience.

But now I can send keystroke combinations out from Izzy and start and stop Syphon Recorder automatically from within a scene. This is like a powerful upgrade for me. A happy ending. I hope it will continue to work. Thanks to those who have contributed to this enquiry. Hope this is useful @yellow ...

Unfortunately, we can't change that text ourselves.

I thought some here would be interested in a long and fairly technical blog post about the GPU performance of the new Apple Silicon M1Pro and M1Max.

One thing that I found particularly interesting was this line:

In Photo, an ideal GPU would do three different things well: 1.) High compute performance 2.) Fast on-chip bandwidth 3.) Fast transfer on and off the GPU.

For the machines used by most Isadora users, we've had #1 and #2, but #3 has always been an issue. This third item is crucial when doing things like getting a rendered image from the Stage (i.e., an OpenGL texture that lives on the GPU) back to the the RAM on the CPU. Neither NDI, Blackmagic, nor the system that records the stage can accept an OpenGL texture directly; this means Isadora must pull the texture back to the CPU. (This bottleneck is something I've publicly warned users about repeatedly, and cursed privately because it would be so great to make these this process more efficient.)

The line in the blog post that got me most excited was this, especially the part I've put in bold:

The #M1Max is the fastest GPU we have ever measured in the @affinitybyserif Photo benchmark. It outperforms the W6900X - a $6000, 300W desktop part - because it has immense compute performance, immense on-chip bandwidth and immediate transfer of data on and off the GPU (UMA).

I think the real shift here is that Apple is not looking at a GPU graphics card as a gaming device where data transfer back to the GPU does not need to be fast. Instead, they're looking at the GPU as a video processing device, where transfer to between the GPU and CPU should be as fast as possible in both directions. That shift in perspective could be a game changer.

The "proof is in the pudding" as we say in English, but it's going to be pretty exciting to see how the Apple silicon Native Isadora 3.1.1 performs on these machines.

First, in general you should go with the framerate of your source material. If your hardware does not support the same low fps (eg. 25fps), then you should go with a multiple of it. This is to prevent recalculation of timing and therefor frames, wich is performance consuming and can cause stuttering. Eg. if your content is created with 25/50fps, you should go with 50hz in all of the systems chain parts (PC -> projector and everything in between). If it was 30/60, go with 60. If your system supports the original fps like 25hz, through all the chain. You can go with this.

If you do live generated content, like animations out of isadora (eg. 3D particles, etc.) it could make sense to have higher frame rates, in certain circumstances. Eg. if the animations include very fast movements. Beside that, it most likely doesn't help to set higher framerates then the content has. It would only take more performance and in the case of recording, would result in bigger filesizes.

I you always work with similar hardware, look for their native refresh rates (projector -> 60Hz) and produce your content fitting to it (30 or 60 fps) keep in mind, higher fps leads to the need of higher hardware performance.

Hi, this might not be legit for this forum, but a few days ago I received a high end 3080ti (GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GAMING 12G OC GPU (GV-N308TGAMING OC-12GD)).

This was hard to find and I managed to get it much cheaper than the €1900 going rate at the moment. Long story short, the project that this was part of the build for is no longer going ahead, and I have a card I cannot justify investing in right now.

If anyone is after this level of card let me know as I am looking to sell it. I thought I would offer here as the cards are hard to come by and an excellent choice for Isadora. The card is unused and has a 4 year warranty and us in Amsterdam.

If anyone is interested DM me, I'll keep it off the local sales site for a few days.

Well, we moved from Lexington, Mass to London, England in 1972 and I've not seen a proper snow storm since. Can't remember which winter it was - '69-70, or maybe 70-71 - it snowed so hard for so long that we were off school from Xmas until late February. Lexington had a complex code of municipal sirens which went off early every morning to broadcast information as to which schools were open and which were not. Day after day the relief of hearing that my school was closed, so another day playing in the snow, or knocking icicles off the guttering. You can imagine our dismay when the school board decided to curtail our summer holidays by the six weeks we'd lost to snow...

Hello, which screensharing application do you use? MacOs native?

Have you tried with plain VNC application, like VNC viewer (free)? or teamViewer (non-commercial version)?

Perhaps you can obtain different results.

Personaly I use VNC viewer with a "booth" windows 10 desktop with 4 screens (from nVidia 3090) and command it from an old macBook Pro 13" (Mojave) with VNC viewer and there is no problems to see the four screens and use mouse and keyboard.

 If you can receive the MIDI in a DAW it will be straightforward to get the MIDI in Isadora. 
I haven't seen any alternatives to this device. You could make your own, but it would be difficult to match the size of these devices.

The problem, If you distance the side-arm from the lens is that you have a big reflexion of video grey on the black flag, visble by audience. When I need to mask a beamer, as for sub-titles, I use a side-arm and a cage made of cinefoil to block the diffusion from the black surface.
