        Dear @lpearse,

Open up Activity Viewer and see what is consuming all that CPU and then report back.

            Dear @lpearse,

OK. You did submit a bug report here, yes? http://troikatronix.com/support/isadora/
Strange that this isn't happening to others. But we'll get it sorted out.
            Best Wishes,

P.S. There was a bug in the past where non-English characters in the path to the application (i.e., ç, ß, ü, etc) would cause a problem. Do you have anything like that, for instance, in the name of your hard drive?

No, although I sometimes use French for file names but not as a hard drive name.

                  Dear @lpearse,

Did you submit the crash reports? (Are there any) That's the most important tool in helping us sort out the problem. This article explains where to find them. Send the last three to five reports, whatever you find there.

                    Ok, fixed.

I installed an update to Quartz Composer, and then re-installed 2.05 and now it runs fine.

                      NO! NOT FIXED!  ugh.

I was testing the 2.02 instead by mistake, with fine FPS, but then wasn't able to get any video output.
                      So weird.
Reset PRAM, SMC and permissions.  No dice.

And now she I downgrade to 2.02, even though the FPS is fine, I cannot get any video output at all.

                          Dear All,

Just so everyone knows: @lpeasre 's problem was because he had upgraded from a previous version of Mac OS, and some an Matrox codec (Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame Codec) were still in the folder at /Library/Quicktime/
(see this page for the codecs in question: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/mac/mpeg_2/)
These are not compatible with recent version of Mac OS anyway according to what he told me.
After removing all files that began with com.matrox... the program booted up fine.
So, a good lesson for everyone: when you upgrade, take a look at the codecs at /Library/Quicktime/ to make sure you have only what you need.
                          Best Wishes,
                          Mark

Thanks do much for getting to the bottom of this and helping me pull off the show! I can't say enough how happy I am that I was able to get real tech support rather than wait around until the next update like so many other software companies.

                                @feinsinn,

The other one that has caused lots of problems is the old Kinoni driver for Epoccam. If you install this on 10.9 or later (maybe even 10.8 and later) it crashes Isadora when it looks for video input devices at startup. I've asked them to put a little warning on their page or even remove the driver, because it doesn't seem to be useful at this point. (One has to use Eppoccam Viewer Pro instead, which works great via Syphon.)
                                Best Wishes,

Where is that driver installed on Mac?

                                    Dear @feinsinn

                                    /Library/Quicktime

But if it was installed you'd know it b/c Isadora would crash on startup.
