Question about mapping a column
-
Hello
I'm a bit behind on a project that requires clips projected onto round "classical" columns in a venue. Since my projectors are below the mid-point of the columns, an image of horizontal bands is distorted. I used mapping to choose the slice of the clip, then on the output I used "grid" to add 6 along the top and 2 on the sides. I get the top done pretty well using the bezier handles, then I head for the bottom which needs tweaking in the other direction. I get that done. But the middle of the bands is not a smooth transition from rounding-up to rounding-down. It get angular in-between. Any suggestions on how to do this?
Thanks very much!

usually when I need to map a complex surface I edit the image-video into a different software (cinema 4d and so on) then i render it. After through Isadora I align my image with real world.

Thanks, that's what I usually do, but this gig is more fluid, so I thought I'd try.

Instead of using a single grid to cover the entirety of each column, you may have some success splitting the input into multiple grids or slices first. This would allow you so adjust for the increasing distortion as you move up the column, as the grid on the bottom/ middle might not need as many sections as the grid on the top.
