@crystalhorizon No, I have no anti-viruses of any kind. Does it work for you?

It works for most people with exactly the same machine as you.

These were some other softwares installed on someone else's machine that perhaps could affect things. It would be great if you checked your system report for these:

        Kernel Extensions
        libusbdmxshield
        MobileIOAudioDriver
        OlympusDSCSCSIDriver
        SophosFileProtection
        SophosPortInterceptor
        SophosWebProtection

        Preference Panes
        Java
        LanRev Agent
        YAMAHA-USBMIDIPatch
        Squeezebox

Do you have any of these?

        Best Wishes,
        Mark

@mark Out of those I only have Java Preference Pane.

Also, with the help of @crystalhorizon I went through different versions, and found that version 2.2.2 worked out of this list.

I am starting a tech on June 7, so it would be super nice if I could use the latest features.

          Thanks.

Michel had a colleague at his institution that exhibited this problem. When he booted his colleague's computer off of a fresh Sierra install, the problem went away. So the issue is now confirmed to be interference by some third-party piece of software. We still do not know which one however. You might try uninstalling Java to see if it changes anything. https://www.java.com/en/downlo...

I wish we could be more definite about which software it is. But this is as much as we know at the moment.

Assuming your post about v2.5.2 not solving your issue is about the "smearing" problem.

Until we determine which piece of software is causing the problem, I simply can't fix it. As noted previously, when we booted a machine that had this problem from an external disk with a virgin Sierra install, the problem went away. So it is some interference between Isadora and another third-party piece of software. The issue is we don't know what software is causing it, and none of the computers of the TroikaTronix team exhibit this problem. (The machine that does show the problem belongs to a colleague of @Michel, but since the computer belongs to a university, we can't start uninstalling software from it to try to find out what's causing the problem.)

You can help by sending me a system report. Open the "System Information" app in /Application/Utilities and save a complete system report. Then .zip it and send it to my private email address which you should have. I will compare it with a Sierra Mac Book Pro that does not have the problem.

Furtherore, I've suggested to @gaz the following thing to try, but he hasn't responded yet. I would like you to try it too:

Run Activity Monitor, print the list of running applications as a PDF and send it to me.

                  Then, try the  the following:

                  • Close down all programs except the Finder
                  • Type AAM in the search box in Activity Monitor
                  • Use Activity Monitor to quit anything that starts has AAM in the title - These are all Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
                  • Take note: look for the app you quit to automatically re-appear... this might happen which would invalidate this test. But, assuming you can quit all these apps successfully...
                  • Run Isadora

Does this by any chance solve the problem? You should reboot your computer as soon as you've tried this test.

                  Best Wishes,
                  Mark

@mark Thanks. I will be happy to try that and send you the results. In the meantime, I ran Isadora (the latest version) from command line and see a bunch of messages, which I think, have to do with the problem:

                    Vladimirs-MacBook-Pro:MacOS eigh_io$ ./Isadora

If it helps to narrow down the search. I have Sophos running on University machines including Sierra 10.12.5 MacBook Pro 15" mid 2015 and I have not seen the smearing problem yet. We have new iMac machines going into a lab and can look there when I get to them.

                         @eight - Hmmmm... the error you're seeing

Quickdraw drawing between QDBeginCGContext and QDEndCGContext

could be the root of the problem. I will investigate this ASAP.

Thanks for your continued patience and your efforts to help us.
