      Hello,

I am playing back a series of two 1920x1080 25p Prores 422HQ movies (ranging from 3 to 8 GB each in size, but I think that the file size is not so important) to two projectors from my 2017 Kabylake 3.1Ghz 16GB 15” Macbook Pro (with a Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB) and do see stutters sometimes. I thought that this should be no problem for this hardware, can you give me any advice?

      Thanks in advance!

      Best regards,

      Mrtz

Hm, From what I found on the net ProRes should be much more stable on a Mac, I think.

Have you tested HAP and experienced problems?

@mc_monte  can you give any recommendations.
I assume the 2017 MacBook pro should have a SSD, so this shouldn't be a data transfer issue.

No, it is not about the SSD.

Could the "General Service" setting in the Isadora Preferences (from "Frame/Rate Tasks) have some impact on this? I just want to play the videos without an interactivity.

                  @mrtz

I have experienced that ProRes422 (without HQ) plays quite fine, but HAP is really the codec to go.

Okay, I converted the 422HQ files to HAP Q and will test them in the next days.

Today I saw that the projectors are set to 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz. Might this be the reason for any stutters in the image?

Yes. Be sure all elements of your playback chain are running at the same hz

Today I tried setting both projectors to 50 Hz, and using movies with HAP Q Codec. The stuttering was still there, sometimes I thought even worse. I am really surprised that it is such a problem to play two 1080p25 movieswqithout stutters with Isadora?

I will try the normal HAP (with quality setting: best) and ProRes 422 tomorrow, but if this does not help I am really clueless. I tried changing the "General Service" setting but I do not quite understand if this has any impact on just video playing at all?

When hovering the mouse on a movie it says „AVFoundation Compatible: no“‚ when using the HAP codec (with setting: best, and fast start: no). Why?

On my 2016 15" MacBook Pro performance with ProRes 422 is totally fine.

Are these video files you created from scratch (original motion graphics), original footage, stock video, or media you got from another source?

What application are you using to export or convert the video?

Different video codecs are compatible with the AVfoundation playback engine in Isadora. This mouseover information is to help you determine which playback engine and playback mode to use with your media in your movie players.

Which playback engine and optimization have you been using for your ProRes movie players?

Hap cannot be played with AV foundation in Isadora yet. But will be with the next release. And in any case you have the adobe creative cloud installed, please read this: https://support.troikatronix.c...

another setting that is always worth testing as well is setting the Fps to double your video frames per second,  setting it to 50 fps in Isadora in your case.
