Call for contributions: IETM Fresh Perspectives #6 - Mixed Reality and the Theatre of the Future
For the new edition of our Fresh Perspectives series, we are looking for examples of theatrical mixed-reality productions, where technology plays an integral role in the experiential design process. Developed in collaboration with HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, we have invited senior lecturer and researcher Joris Weijdom as curator and writer of this issue.
Technological developments have an increasing impact on our daily lives and forms of cultural expression. More and more we exist in a mix of real and virtual environments in which we communicate and share experiences on a growing number of platforms. The film and game industry seem to have a strong focus on creating the ‘wow-effect of a perfect illusion’, blending seamlessly the real and virtual into an unambiguous experience – but what about theatrical arts, which is itself one of the oldest forms of mixed-reality experience?
This publication will focus on less effect-driven but more complex mixed-reality experiences from an artistic-narrative-philosophical point of view.
