Sound Problem
-
Interesting... I had the same problem on Saturday, where a short section of sound was looping for no apparent reason, in a much simpler set-up... it was during a sound check, where we were playing back a clip through a sound player with a specific start point selected. I think the problem came when the sound looped back to the beginning, but I may be wrong as I wasn't in a position to be analytic about it, and no problem came up in the performance as we only play a very short bit before deactivating. Will try see if I can replicate the error... also using 1.3.0.f24

I have problems playing sound with Isadora since years, thats why I only use it if I have one or two tracks that don't get manipulated in any way.
It seems the shorter the sound the more problems you have. To reproduce your problem, even with 1.3.0f24 place a sound player actor, import the system sound Purr.aiff, Bottle.aiff or any other system sound and press the start trigger. Here you either hear a short "white noise" or a klick before you hear the clip itself. To get your looping problem set "play start" to 50 and hit the start trigger, now that short sound will loop for a while. If you use the "sound preload" actor you don't have any "white noise" or "klicking" anymore but the loop problem persists.
The first time I wanted to use Isadora for sound was maybe 5 years ago, I then wrote a bug report and didn't use Isadora for sound anymore. Last year I wanted to try Isadora and sound again, and had the problems mentioned above. I then wrote a bug report but didn't hear anything up to today. But maybe this thread will help ;-).
Best,

I had problems last time(2011) I used Isadora for MIDI sampler. My sounds were very short 1sec bits triggered by OSCulator and Wii. I never got it to work so I bought hardware sampler(Boss SP303) instead. Preloading worked, but I got some random distortion still. There was a discussion about it, but since I went for hardware solution I did not follow up really.

Dear Paulo,
Are you using the Sound Player actor or the Sound Movie Player? If you're using the Sound Player Actor, you should use the Sound Preload actor with the mode set to forever so the sounds remain in memory. This should get rid of the noise, etc.Best Wishes,MarkP.S. Paulo, would you be so kind as to shorten your signature line? I'm trying to get everyone to keep them as short as possible; it simply makes the information we're trying to read more readable for everyone. Have a look at Michel's or mockej's for an example. Thanks. -
@Mark: You get rid of the noise but the loop problem still remains.
Best,

Hey Mark,
I was using the Sound Player Actor and tried with the preload, but the loop problem still remains as pointed by @MichelPs.: Took care of the signature... -
I started running Plogue Bidule (AU) inside Isadora to get around this and other sound problems.
It's cheapish but not free. Can seem like a bit of a hack and AU support doesn't seem that mature (is that fair?) but it works for me.Your mileage may vary. -
Dear All,
All of the aforementioned problems are now fixed. They will appear in the next release. Thank you for your patience.Best Wishes,Mark -
Dear Paulo,
Can you send me a small example of the randomization you were doing -- i.e., an example .izz file? I would like to test to see if my fixes for sure fix your problem.Best Wishes,Mark -
