I am away from my PC, I wonder if anyone has the time and inclination to test this codec from Notch

It has adobe export capabilities and windows playback- seemingly once the codecs are installed it should work with Isadora, downloads are here:

      https://www.notch.one/support/...

Specs and quality and particularly encode times look pretty amazing and quality is seemingly out of sight

Very exciting but worth noting that it's not officially supported in Isadora at this time, so it's "use at your own risk" for now in terms of using it with Isadora.

Uou can check out an in-depth test of NotchLC and a wide range of other 10bit (plus 8bit) codecs in this test by Dandelion+Burdock: https://dandelion-burdock.com/articles/10bit-workflow-viability

          Quoting the article:

          > NotchLC is the youngest addition to the codecs tested, and is delivering top performance from the start with image quality that is sufficient for intermediate codec but outstanding for delivery.

@woland considering notchLC codec support is a new feature in the latest disguise (previously D3) release (https://download.disguise.one/...) I would say it is ready for prime time (this company is pretty rigorous with testing before releases). The blog post and the video are quite old.

***edit - realised that you may be talking about its support in Isadora, in which case yes, totally untested but worth a look.

Yes, sorry, I wasn't saying you should trust Notch's quality control, I was just saying that this new real-time codec has not been tested by our team with Isadora so we cannot say we officially support it yet. Since it's unknown to us how it performs in different situations with our software (Importing, playback with/without audio, reverse playback with/without audio, playback at different speeds with/without audio, playback at different standard resolutions, playback with non-standard resolutions, etc.) we have to state that it's "use with Isadora at your own risk" at the moment.

It's definitely exciting, interesting, and worth a look, but if anyone has trouble with it in a production environment using our software it'd be totally uncharted waters for us and we'd have to figure out a solution on the fly.

That's all well and good, and certainly very exciting, I'm just stating that TroikaTronix has not tested this new codec with our software and as such we can't officially list it as supported in Isadora until after we are able to do extensive testing.

Anyone who's interested to do so is welcome to try it out with Isadora, but the outcome of using it with our software is unknown at this time and we won't be able to help immediately if somebody runs into problems using it with Isadora because it is uncharted territory.

Like Hap, I suspect some minor work is required under the hood to get the gpu acceleration, otherwise they might say that it is fully supported by  'x,y, and z'.

Note: Hap originally played back without any changes to Isadora, but didn't offer gpu acceleration.

I suspect this may be the same, but I may be wrong. If testing be sure to compare photojpeg vs this codec .. this will allow you to see if there is less cpu and more gpu usage in this codec.

                    Hi,

A new super codec sounds promising. That’s great - but what software is available to do the encoding on Mac? When it is released for the Mac platform I would love to try it out.

                    Best wishes
