Is it better to use Alpha Mask in conjunction with the Threshold actor to create my layered alpha mask or create a black and white cut out in Photoshop and send that black and white image to the mask in Alpha Mask?

I'd say the latter... Photoshop. A little less for isadora to process then.

Great.  I have done both but wasn't sure if one way was better than another.  Cheers!

Graham is correct: whenever you can do this kind of processing beforehand, it means less work for Isadora to do, and more CPU left for other tasks. So do whatever masking you can beforehand, and for anything that needs to be live, use the Threshold actor.
