Hi All ! a student of mine (on Mac) cant see the freq Bands on the Movie Player. I notice the the Pb Engine out put says AV. This could be a reason? Should say Quick time Player ? or is it a configuration problem ? Any light on this will be great !

      Best,

      Maxi

PS: the sound freq analysis in the live capture setting is selected !

As far as I know the frequency bands only work with the QT playback engine. So you have to set optimize to interactive. But if you have Catalina installed QT pb engine is not available anymore because its 32 Bit.

This ^^ You only get the Frequency bands with QT. If the player uses AV it means that it doesn't use the QT player, this can be either because it only has the AV engine and not the QT engine (Since Catalina as described by Michel) or you set the mode of the player to Interactive to force that it uses the QT engine if it is detected and installed.

Thanks @juriaan and @Michel I just talked with my students and she has Catalina ! (also we already checked between performance and interactive in case)

So mistery solved...but    How can we workaround  this ?

              1. double click on the 'eye' icon at top of movie player
              2. this gives you a settings menu
              3. check the Freq Bands box, clock OK / close
              4. set the Movie Player 'optimize' option to 'interactive'
              5. choose number of bands

                  @RIL

So what you can do on Mac OS is actually feed the sound signal back to Isadora using the Live Capture settings. In Mac OS you can create an virtual Audio device, basically a port that we can use to our advance ;)

So your workflow would be as follows:

                  1. Movie Player / Audio player with his output set to the Loop - Output
                  2. In Isadora preferences we now choose as Live Capture device the Loop - Input
                  3. Start Live Capture
                  4. Using the Frequency Bands actor you now can analyse the signal as required.

                     Hi,

@Juriaan suggestion is how you can use frequency analysis when using Mac OSX Catalina. I have tested this with a number of audio software options, because it is not something you can do in Isadora without additional software resources. Black hole is a free audio utility that will allow a audio player output to become a selectable audio source through Live Capture settings. Another is Audio Siphon does the same thing but provides an UI and costs some. The best option I found was LoopBack audio it provides a sophisticated interface and maximum flexibility but at a higher cost.

If you are running OSX Mojave or earlier the Soundflower utility is free and does the same function as Blackhole described above.

                    Best Wishes

                    Russell

@bonemap is right. Sorry about that, Windows user here so I didn't knew that you need additional software for it.
