      Hi,

I am trying to send MIDI commands to trigger scenes from Ableton to Isadora using two different laptops.

I watch the tutorial Guru 16 but in my understanding, I won't need the virtual Isadora in because I have a real ethernet input.

I cannot figure out how to get the two software to communicate.

      Can anyone help?

      Thanks

      Elena

How are you sending Midi over ethernet?

Since you are using 2 computers you do not need to do a MIDI loopback.
I think you should look at this Ableton article: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en...

I also wrote an article about controlling Ableton from Isadora recently when running on the same computer that might be helpful.
Another about controlling Isadora from Ableton is in the works at the moment.

Eh this is the issue. I did it with touch designer and it opens an ethernet communication using IP. In other words, I believe that TD ping Ableton through a module created, and then it allows me to send MIDI notes from Ableton Live to Touch Designer.

I was wondering if there is an equivalent with Isadora.

It could be I didn't explain myself properly... So in case that is the case, please ask again cause I would love to figure itout.

          thanks

Ah yes I checked that article and I believe that is what I have to do. To create a virtual midi network in the laptop that has Ableton.

My question is, how will I find it in Isadora then? Will it come as a virtual input? Somehow I don't see how I will tell Isadora to see this port.

@elena the loopback thing is just if both programs are running on the same laptop

for two laptops you need to use something like IPmidi. This comes up as a midi interface and your laptops just have to be able to see eachother in the same network. Or use two midi interfaces and a midi cable. IPmidi has worked great for me on mac. I dont know the equivalent for PC.

In the Isadora MIDI Setup dialog, it should be listed as a port in the Input Port pulldown menu.

Ok Yes I will look up for that cause I have Ableton on a MAc and Isadora on PC.

Let's see if I can work something out building a MIDI Network

                  Thanks

@elena you could use OSC instead, its made for network communication and much more versatile. In ableton check out the connection kit. Isadora supports osc natively.
