High School Production Using Izzy and ZoomOSC

@frank522 Break a virtual leg, Frank!

@frank522 Wow! Yes! i just logged on to ask about how someone might link live video capture in izzy to screen share feed in zoom. I dont know what you've been up to with these high school productions but it seems like it could overlap. Is this something you could expalin? Linking live video input in zoom to screen sharing feed from zoom/skype/discord?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here. If your screen sharing in Zoom, then Zoom has the shared object (desktop, window, etc.) as the video source. There's not really a way to insert live capture into that unless you simply show Isadora's preview Stage and make that part of what is being screen shared.
Can you be any more specific as to what you are trying to do?
Best Wishes,

@jump Some things to consider when doing something like this:
1. Out of the box, you need to decide between resolution and framerate in Zoom. If you pass the Isadora output as a video input into the Zoom call, you will get a good frame rate but be forced to have a lower resolution playback if more than 3 people are in the Zoom call.
2. If you screen share, you can optimize for 1080p playback, but at 15 FPS.
3. If you have a Facebook Portal (of a few other gadgets) and it joins a Zoom call for about 30 seconds, that call will be upgraded to 720p, making it great for passing video as a virtual source.
4. If you are affiliated with an educational institution or business, you can take some steps with customer support to unlock 1080p group calling in Zoom. This is the best solution.
If you have pipeline questions on getting video from zoom into isadora or from isadora into Zoom, I am happy to discuss further!

Thanks for the response! I’m trying to screen record activity on my main MacBook monitor while being able to manipulate a live screen share capture happening on top of my desktop display in Isadora. I plan to have a second display to command Isadora while my laptop monitor looks normal but has a manipulated layer (screen share from discord/skyp/zoom) that is being fed into Isadora that I can then mess with. I dont just wish to change my main display to my MacBook but rather wish to be able to manipulate the look of my basic OS display on my laptop. Sounds strange but it’s a piece of a larger project that would benefit a ton if we can get this to work.

@jump To clarify -
macbook screen which you want to screen record and then add a layer on top that comes from zoom/skype/discord
2nd monitor that runs izzy
3rd monitor that runs discord/skype/zoom that you capture as well and add to the macbook screen to make it look like something else is happening on your macbook screen.
Or is it laptop monitor and one external monitor? And you want to feed the resulting product (your macbook screen w/ added input) back into zoom?
Sorry if I don't understand your workflow...

@liminal_andy Thanks for the help! Yeah we're trying to route a live stream (of screenshare), from discord/skype/zoom or anything that allows for screenshare feed, into isadora. If you know how to do this it'd be awesome if you could explain. Do you know if there is any way to up the frame rate of that screenshare feed? or are we forced to choose between framerate and resolution for screenshare too? (no one will be on the call but me). thanks again y'all!

@liminal_andy Thank you - could not have done any of this w/o you and ZOSC! Wish the show was in a couple weeks - would have saved myself days by not having to build a 20 actor router with 4.0.

@jump We used the screen capture alpha to grab what we needed and get it into izzy. Even though it's an alpha it's been totally stable for us. But there may be a better way with Skype or Discord. I don't believe there is with Zoom.
-
@frank522 cool! thanks, I'll check out this alpha to see if it works for me.

Ditto on Screen Capture Alpha, it's great on macOS.
For the purpose of providing alternatives with their own drawbacks, you might consider NDI Scan Convert (preferably the flavor from Gallery Sienna - this is higher latency though) or a Syphoner instance (though I am not sure how it interacts with the Zoom screen share).
To your question on FPS versus resolution, you can get the higher frame rate by toggling the optimize for video playback option. This moves between resolution and frame rate, practically speaking.

Glad to hear it! I look forward to your feedback when you take 4.0 for a joy ride!

@liminal_andy Sweet! I think this actor may be the shortcut. thanks so much!
