Syphon Virtual webcam in to Skype ?
-
Hi all ! Im getting the video feed from Skype into Isadora with the NDI catcher.
So I would like to procces it and send it back to skype via the Syphon virtual webcam, so the performers can have a "monitor" of what they are doing ? Is it possible ?

yes. that's exactly what the Virtual Webcam does. in Stage Output, select the Syphon option for the Stage you need to send. it should then appear in the Syphon Virtual Webcam utility's window. Then in Skype, select it as a camera source (it shows up as OBS Virtual Camera in my setup) - bear in mind yo won't get any audio through this system, you'll need to treat the audio separately.

@dbini thanks ! That is exactly what I did and worked on my computer, but in the second computer (that simulates a remote performer) couldnt get the S Virtual webcam... Only an icon image of me. Maybe im missing something?
Thank you very much !

@dbini Im saying for some reason I couldnt my performers couldnt get my virtual feed and so they dont have a "monitoring view" of what they are doing, even though I can see my self with the Syphon virtual...strange
Perhaps I should try again ..can you explain me the advantages of using obs ninja? And if you can get the monitoring ?
Thanks a lot !

the times i have experienced when the other studio can't see my feed from Syphon Virtual Webcam was when it had crashed, or I was using Chrome with Hardware Acceleration switched off.
I changed from Skype to OBSNinja last year because i felt Skype was too problematic, and OBSN has so many options for configuring it. If you set up a URL shortener, you just need to send each of your collaborators a link that has been shortened, and you can experiment with the configurations for them to get the best results, for example: add &cleanoutput to the link will give you the video feed with no buttons or overlays. A Room in OBSN works in the same way as a Skype call, plus you get the benefit of a Director's View which works as a control panel where you can tweak or troubleshoot all of your guests' video feeds.
The main issue I have with OBSN is that it is purely p2p, so you are limited to the number of guests in a room before someone's cpu starts complaining. it works fine with 4 guests, even if they are all on laptops. as long as each one is online via ethernet, the quality is excellent. -
Thanks you for such a detailed reply. Yesterday I followed your advice and was experimenting with OBSN. It is clearly very practical.
What I don't understand yet, is how to send the video of the participants from OBSN to Isadora (then process it) and resend the result to OBSN so that the participants can see the final video for monitoring.
Thank you !!

There are many ways to do this:
You can use Vingester to set up an NDI feed for all of your OBSN guests.
Or the Electron Capture App and Syphoner. Or a browser and Syphoner, but Electron is cleaner and faster. (Syphoning tends to be faster than NDI because it runs on GPU whereas NDI runs on CPU) (edit: or Vingester and Syphoner. i forgot it does frameless feeds)
Or OBS Studio (easier if you are using a PC) with the NDI plugin - if you want to be able to chooses one guest at a time and keep your NDI feeds down to one.
Or continue using Skype to get the guests' feeds into Isadora via NDI, and use OBSN to send the preview back to them in a browser window.
