      hi there

I want to connect an old PS3 webcam as my input video but isadora wont see it, even when i scan for devices. The cam works fine for zoom and other programs. Is there something i can do?

      thanks!

It would be helpful to know the version of Isadora you are using, and the system platform you are running. (generally we suggest adding this to your forum signature as I have below. This makes answering technical issues much easier)

The PS3 webcam is rather old, and if I am not mistaken was never native to Mac or PC (required some 3rd party drivers). It is likely that these use only very old frameworks and are not/wont be updated. That said, the latest release of Isadora did extend some support for virtual cameras which might help. However I suspect you would need something more like legacy (DirectShow on PC) support. This is not available at this time.

There was a webcam driver package called Macam that used to be used to get it to work on Mac.

It looks like someone has done the work of updating it to a 64bit setup for Catalina.

You may have some luck if you try their update to it: https://sourceforge.net/p/webc...

As far as I can tell, the Catalina update offers a static library (i.e., a ".a" file) that one needs to compile into a program and use. I don't think it is a generalized library (i.e., a dylib file) that you can install somewhere and get macOS to recognize those old cameras in general. There is a link to a VUO plugin that uses this library, which implies a similar plugin could be built for Isadora. (Of course, time allowing... I've got a lot on my plate as usual.)

                Best Wishes,
