      Hi,

I open a show in 6 hours and have a new issue that has come out of nowhere, everything has been running fine for the last 4 weeks. I am operating two projectors to two stages/two displays (the second display is mapped to two surfaces). For some reason a selection of videos are no longer running. Some of them move for a couple of frames and then stop, others do not play at all and some play fine. All video files are in mov. format. It is an issue that seemed to occur out of nowhere, I moved from one scene into the other and they just refused to play.

Running Catalina 10.15.6, Memory 32GB and running Isadora 3.0.8.

I have seen a similar post about quicktime crashing and I believe that to be the issue. However, the solution on the other post is not working for me (go to Activity monitor, quit quicktime process, restart). I have tried this a couple of times and no joy.

Any help at all would be massively appreciated, High-Key freaking out here.

      JC

To get support as fast as possible you should enter an urgent ticket.

Did you try to change the movie players 'optimise' value?

Hi, quick check list, 9 out of 10 something you changed last minute?

          - Sure you have all MOV files in the same codec?

          - Did you check cycles and frames during certain patches? Do they change rapid when changing scenes?

          - Try quit all, restart compu and see if it is slow again. Sometimes with a high patch and changing from scene to scene very quickly, it can slow it down over time.

          - No other programs running in the background?

          - Not low on battery so machine slows down?

          - No overlapping outputs to stages or something?

@dillthekraut Thanks for the ticket info.

Have changed the optimise value. Doesn't seem to change anything.

Just to be clear about it; mov isn't a codec. It is a container format, wich can have video streams of different codecs. You have to check wich codecs they use und how high the bandwith is they use. You can see it by hovering the mouse over the videos in the media window. The bandwith you can see if you use quicktime to open it and show the movie inspector window in the window menu.

Beside that, you might double check, if all frame rates of the system are the same (50hz or 60hz, etc.) on all outputs and fit with the ones of the videos (multiple of it at least).

To check what the issue could be systematicly, open a new project and start building the patch again, step by step from the simplest configuration (movie player-> projector), with the same movie files.

                  Hi,

Resetting preferences is often a remedy: Resetting Isadora Preferences
Restart the computer and relaunch the Isadora patch. If problems persist, as already suggested, take out a support ticket.

I hope you are able to resolve the issue quickly.

                  Best Wishes

                  Russell

I believe the issue related to a mix of codecs. One was h265 (not supported) as well as heavy use of different mp4/h264 varieties which were being used for non standard playback. H264 doesn't like speed changes (non 1 speeds) and it doesn't perform well with start and end time changes. For these types of video adjustments a codec that is compressed frame by frame is recommended (Hap, Prores). H264 is compress in frame groupings, and requires loading multiple frame to decompress 1. This makes reverse playback a real problem, as well as trimming (start/end times)
