      Hi,

After teaching Isadora in Dutch and English I now will have to do it in French. I speak some French but as I'm not a native speaker and don't know all the jargon, I was wondering if someone has some kind of terminology list in French of words used in digital scenography (Scénographie numérique) and Isadora. And maybe also computer terminology in general.

I can do a google translate but I'm not sure if that would be correct.

      For example:

Movie player: lecteur de film (is that also used for the actor?)
Node base programming: programmation basée sur les nœuds
      rear projection: projection arrière
      Input: données?
      Output: ?
      a value: ?
scaling (values): mise à l'échelle (I think this is climbing)
      Toolbox: boîte à outils?
      Media bin: bac multimédia
      folder (of a computer): dossier
Mouse watcher: observateur de souris (I think this sounds strange, like I'm observing mice)
      Envelope generator: générateur d'enveloppe
Wave generator: générateur de vagues (i think this are waves of the sea or is that the same)
      Capture video: capturer une vidéo
Stage: Stade/ scène /? (if it is scène how to know the difference between a scene?)

      .....

PS: Some tips for French podcast or YouTube clips to learn the jargon are also great (written text won't help a lot as due to dyslexia my reading is terrible).

      Merci
      Cordialement
      Met vriendelijke groeten
      With kind regards

        Salut GertjanB !

I don't know a specific website to learn french words in scenography area, but here are my following translations :

Movie player: lecteur vidéo ( is that also used for the actor ? -> I think the actors have to be taught in english because these are their names and the community is English-speaking )
Node base programming: programmation basée sur les nœuds  ->  the translation is good but in the same way, we use "node" rather than "noeud"
        rear projection: projection arrière
Input: entrée ( can be physical, data, etc... )
        Output: sortie
        a value: une valeur
scaling (values): mise à l'échelle ( I think this is climbing -> "échelle" is a synonym for ladder and scale )
        Toolbox: boîte à outils
Media bin: chutier ( in film editing ) or organisateur de médias ( not really used...)
        folder (of a computer): dossier
Mouse watcher: observateur de souris (I think this sounds strange, like I'm observing mice -> there is not good translation for that, maybe : "examiner les mouvements de la souris" )
        Envelope generator: générateur d'enveloppe
Wave generator: générateur d'onde (i think this are waves of the sea or is that the same -> the english words are quite often used, like for sound "wave form" )
Capture video: capturer une vidéo, or enregistrer une vidéo ( like record... )
Stage: scène (if it is scène how to know the difference between a scene ? -> a "scène" in french can be physical like a stage for performers / a concept of space / relations between characters / or a part a theater piece)

I hope this helps you, and don't worry french students are well-known with technical english words in softwares, etc...

Have a nice day, best wishes.

        Clément

          Salut @clement,

          Merci pour tout l'info.

I won't be teaching in France but in a French speaking country.

I hope i can use a lot of English terminology. If not i have a list now with explanations in french, thank you.
