[LOGGED] QuickTime Friendly Virtual Webcam

Hi there Isadora crew. Im a Isadora user since a long time. I also use the syphon virtual webcam a lot! Great software I must say... Im using keynote to do a lot of presentations where I talk about how I use tech in stage performance. Keynote just got a fantastic feature that lets users have webcam feeds in its slides witch opens up a lot of possibilities 🤩

Unfortunately virtual webcam haven't been allowed to use for some reason until yesterday. There is an app called Camo Studio that uses phones as webcams. And this app is the first virtual webcam that shows up in QuickTime/keynote.

I'd love to use syphon piped straight in to Keynote via your fantastic software! Is a QuickTime friendly version of your virtual webcam app on your road map perhaps?

I'm surprised by Keynote not accepting Syphon/Spout (enabled in Stage Setup). I hope this is resolved soon in both places: Keynote as well as Isadora as a Virtual Webcam. In the meantime I'm using NDI from Stage to another machine, or could also output to a "display" and bring in through an HDMI capture device.

No other Apple Apps are Syphon enabled, that's why the virtual webcam support is so important... A way to expand the possibilities trough Syphon. Anyone got another work arounds to achieve this?

Not sure why Syphon Virtual Webcam works with most things that accept webcams, but not Quicktime Player nor Keynote. Anyway, we've logged this feature request.

TLDR: if OBS can't work with QuickTime Player, I'm not sure we can get Syphon Virtual Webcam to do it either.

The virtual camera code for Syphon Virtual Camera comes from the virtual camera for OBS. Test test the "status quo", I just downloaded OBS on my M1 miniMac running Big Sur. While the compatibility guide for the OBS Virtual Camera says it works with QuickTime player, these OBS bug reports show that on Big Sur (and, therefore, probably Monterey) it does not work. (I tested Syphon Virtual Webcam on Monterey, and it does in fact work with QuickTime Player.) 

As this bug report points out, Apple has something going on with their proprietary apps that prevent them from working on recent versions of macOS.

I'm not sure what Camo Studio has done to get around the problem, but it's also an app with a 40€ annual subscription price. Syphon Virtual Webcam is free, and so the amount of energy we can put into it is limited. 

I'm sorry that I can't say we can get it working, but that's where it stands from our point of view.

Thanks for getting back on this issue... I just hope that Apple opens up this possibility to other virtual cam apps as well then : )
