OpenNI Tracker not appearing on an M2 mac
-
Does anyone know if the OpenNI Tracker works with an M2 mac? we've installed Rosetta and are 'opening Isadora with Rosetta'. However the actor can't be found.
thanks,

Hi there Nic!
Sadly we do not have any M2 devices in the office at the moment, so we can't verify this ourselves. You are aware that you have to install the OpenNI actors from our Add-ons page right?
https://troikatronix.com/add-o...
For more information about how to install Plugins see our Help article
https://support.troikatronix.c...
Let me know how it goes!

@juriaan thanks for the quick response Juriaan. Yes we did install the actor plugin, restarted the mac and isadora but no joy. All works well on my intel. I'm not sure of the difference between M1 and M2 architecture but wondered if the actor worked on the M1?

Hi again Juriaan,
I've run through the set-up again with my client, but I still have the same issues - the actor not appearing in Isadora even though it is in the correct plugins folder and the app is opening with Rosetta 2. One thing I did notice is that she is on Ventura (13.0.1) which may well be the problem, not the fact her machine is running an M2 chip. Are you able to check on this OS? My own set up is Monterey for which I don't have any issue. Maybe I should rais a bug report too?
thanks

I can see the OpenNI actors on my Ventura machine. Did you install the plugins using the script, or did you do it manually?

I used the script but checked they were installed by opening Help>Open Plugin Folder>Troikatronix Actor Plugins
this opens a folder IsadoraPlugins_x64

@armando Hi Amando, it looks like there are still problems on the M2 - my feeling is that it's an issue between Apple/Rosetta and OpenNI - so I'm going to have to adopt another strategy with my client and use IR camera tracking using IR lighting on stage. I've looked on the forum but can't seem to find an easy-to-use webcam that can see IR light straight out of the box (ie doesn't need to be hacked to have the IR blocking filter removed - when my client is in Korea and I'm based in the UK so modifications are tricky). Do you have any suggestions as to what to use? I did recommend the Kurokesu C920 premade camera but they're out of stock.
thanks for your help,
Nic

Yes, I can confirm that this is an issue. We do not yet know if we will be able to address this or not since it is related to the OpenNi drivers.
Moving to another tracking solution at this time is prudent.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any IR reading webcams at this time. I have hacked them for this purpose in the past.
