-
dear sirs.
I have an issue with my black manic box and isadora v3
I project from mac book pro to a beamer
The Beamer is 4:3 native I set resolution 1034x768
Have been sending data to beamer for 4 years now via HDMI cable no problem.
Trying to change to black box hdmi to sdi to hdmi.
It suddenly shows that beamer in 16x9 which is not good for the projects. All images & movies are 4:3.
what can I do.Returned to my trusted hdmi cable for tonight all good
No problem.
would like to run SDI for distance issues.

Hello @tr742
SDI, coming from professional Braodcasting, is highly standardised. Therefor you can only send standard resolutions like 480p/i, 720p/i, 1080p/i, etc. . beside the old 480 and 576 (4:3) formats are 16:9 only. The resolution you are trying to send to the Blackmagic Converter is not an SDI standard, therefor the converter can't handle it, as it isn't a scaler.

As a side note, running optical HDMI will get rid of the distance issues....

@tr742 For non SMPTE standard video use HDBaseT (I am not a fan of the long/optical HDMI - to fault prone and rare). An HDBaseT convertor setup will handle any resolution and the signal is sent over an ethernet cable so they are everywhere and you usually only need to bring the boxes and a few short HDMI cables. Any venue or AV support company will have a decent ethernet cable for you to use. Seeing as though yoru resolution is quite low, you can also get away with much cheaper HDMI over Cat 5 solutions. I have used $50 sets with no real trouble.

@citizenjoe Yes I posted the brand I bought on the forum. about 200 dollars for 300 feet. And it is consumer electronics compatible which means that with an ATEM you can control the iris, ISO, White balance etc in Blackmagic Cameras (in case you need)

what is your experience with HDBase T especially regarding latency?
I'm still wondering, why this isn't standard yet in professional environments. -
could you please elaborate on this? Maybe a link to the threat. I'm interested in the BM remote possibilities.
Thank you! -
@dillthekraut I see HDBaseT everywhere. It’s even built in to a lot of high end projectors. Most hire companies that do long runs for video will use cat7 and hdbaset. I guess it’s not super common in theatres because they are small. It’s zero latency and high quality, but the send and receive can be expensive for long distance high resolution.

Thank you for your perspective!
Maybe I'm out of corporate/Industry productions for to long (kind of pre Corona ). Back then everything was done by very expensive fiber converters (e.g. connex). I was always wondering why.
The projectors we use in our Theater does have HDBase-t ports anyway. -
@dillthekraut lots of places have fibre, especially for very long runs. Reels of rugged cat7 are multi use so they are pretty popular. This is especially true when you only need a single converter when the projector has built in hdbaseT
