Controlling Astera Titan Tube Lights?

Hello! Does anyone have experience connecting and controlling Astera Titan Tube lights with Isadora?

I have the full kit and wireless transmitter, trying to figure out how to sync them with sound in Isadora. Assuming it will be a midi or DMX control but starting from scratch with little experience.

Any help appreciated!:)

@jsegal99 Hi, I used to own some sets very much like this (Octostrip). My background is in both lighting and video ranging from large to intimate events. I dont think I would consider running these using Isadora alone, but rather use pixelmapping software like Madmapper or GrandMa2 desk or Resolume or the like. Especially when using more extended DMX personalities. Isadora could definitely send the triggers, it’s brilliant at all sorts of calculations and dataflow. The DMX part is there, its a great add-on but I don’t consider it to be more involved production ready, very much the same as Qlab.
But maybe thats just my workflow, I’d be very interested to learn from anyone else on here how they’d make it work. 🙂

Hey!

I would also route this type of traffic to something like a lighting desk, in my case I have ETCNomad running in the background that I just activate an scene with OSC / MIDI triggers that then will control the light source for me.

If you want to sent DMX thru Isadora, you totally can! Just let us know what your preference is and we can give you some pointers in the right direction.

Contrary to popular opinion, i would suggest that it depends what you want to do with them. I saw a circus show at the weekend where the lighting tech had used Isadora to trigger lots of the onboard effects within LED tubes (I don't think they were Astera, probably they were Godox).
Everything was timed perfectly with the music (Isadora triggering Ableton to play tracks) and looked great.

Hiya Mark, it was the local circus school - Tähtisirkus - their older group end of term show, so 9 performers aged between 15 and 22. It was directed by Kat & Jared. I introduced Jared to Isadora back in 2019 when they were part of Oulu Dance Hack, and then helped them make a show called Shapes Of Water a couple of years ago, using Izzy to run everything from one trigger at the top of the show (various scenes, 2 projectors, DMX and sound)
Jared spent a lot of time programming the tech for this show. The venue is pretty limited when it comes to lighting, so he added 8 LED tubes that were were mounted on stands or manipulated by the performers.

@dbini 200% agree on the "depends on what you want to do with them". I'm assuming these also have built-in macros in the various personalities, which would indeed make triggering effects a breeze.

Thanks for the initial thoughts all! I've got EOS set up with Asteras responding and trying to trigger cues using OSC through Isadora. But I am having trouble understanding the parameters of the OSC Transmit and how to make EOS 'hear' it.

Upd address: Current IP Address?

Port: 8000

Address: ????

Inputs: 1

Value: /eos/cue/2/fire (using a trigger text actor)

Press 'transmit' and nothing happens.

Any ideas? Not sure how what to put in Address to talk to EOS. Thanks!

Hey!

For IP address: In EOS go to tab 99 (Hold Tab and press 99) this will bring you to the diagnostic tab of ETC EOS. In there you will find the address that you can sent the messages to

Port: Same story! You set this in your Show settings on ETC EOS

Address: /eos/cue/2/fire

Value: None / empty

And then press transmit :)

@jsegal99 Hello, I use in Izzy their chinese (and very god) competitors nanlite Pavotube 30 X 4 feet long. They can be used as RGBWW as a single pixel, as 4 pixels or 8 pixels in 8 or 16 bit dmx (with Enttec DMX PRO MKII vie USB serial). And also work with Artnet send in Isadora via the fantastic Enttec ODE MKIII. Works like a charm ! Nanlite
