Movie player stops looping intermittently
-
Using Isadora 4. So I have different scenes that have 3 movies playing, one on the left and right side walls, and one on the main front wall. The movie clips are set to loop and they're about 8 minutes long and typically they will loop a few times and then freeze. Sometimes its the movie on the left walll, sometimes its the one on the right. It's not entirely predictable. The load on the bottom right corner is around 18% or so its not computer resources. Using H264 mp4 files
When the movies freeze you can't restart them by clicking play or doing anything on the scene itself, I believe the only way to do it is to go to another scene and then back again to the problematic scene.

Can you please list the specs of the computer you are using? (Mostly just interested to know the operating system and if you have more than one graphics card.)

Yes I have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX3060 driver 560.94 dedicated video memory 12288 MB GDDR6 total available graphics memory 28590MB. But it also has an NVS810 with 7 projectors plugged into it.
PC is a Win 10 pro, 11th gen intel core iy-11700k 3.6GHZ 8 cores with 32 GB Ram

Can you tell me how the mp4s were created/compressed?
MP4 is a wrapper that can hold a wide range of audio video codecs/settings. Some can be problematic.
Have you tried using HAP as an alternative?
-
@dusx I use shutterencoder converting apple movies into mp4 H264's because they're small. The computer doesn't have a ton of disk space so HAPS just aren't practical they're enormous.

shutterencoder converting
This is my general approach as well, as I find the default settings in ShutterEncoder work well and I love the batch processing offered.
How many videos are playing from a single drive at a time?
-
@dusx Just 3 videos. I use 7 projectors, 2 on each side wall and 3 on the back wall. One video is playing on each of the 3 walls. Typically after maybe 15 mins someone comes running for me and says one of the videos stopped and I can never restart it on the scene, you have to navigate away and back again so generally I end up just ignoring the problem and having a frozen wall for the rest of the hour...

I don't have experience with the NVS810 output card, so I don't know if this is adding any sort of load/delay that is having an effect upstream in the movie players.
Are you using the latest Isadora 4 version? Version 4.0.7 (the latest) Fixed an issue on Windows where the output would sometimes freeze. I don't know if these are related but it may be worth ensuring your are uptodate. Are you using any playback settings other than the default speed and direction?

@dusx With the videos all the settings are default I'm just enabling looping and turning the sound down to nothing. I'm not sure offhand what Isadora subversion I'm using but I'll check when I'm at work tomorrow and upgrade if necessary and if it happens again I'll let you know.
