Hello everyone, and Happy New 2026!
Am I right in thinking that Isadora scans for IP address on startup, and then sticks with that address? If I change WiFi to a new router, my network IP changes, but it stays the same in Isadora, causing some communication issues.
Is there currently a way to re-check IP? If not, could this be a feature request? Maybe a button in the Settings menu?
(edit: I'm talking about the IP display in the Settings menu. it's super useful to have it there for quick reference, but would be perfect if it could update dynamically)

 Also yes, this is the current behavior. It's also the same for the OSC Port selected in Isadora Settings/Preferences. This is locked in at startup and changes to it will only take effect after you quit and re-launch Isadora.

 I can see it being useful to be able to choose which network it should use (and use the IP the computer has for that network) but dynamically updating seems like it could be annoying. 

Example: If I've got a LAN with no internet access set up for NDI and Isadora's using that properly, then I switch my computer in network settings to use my WiFi instead of the internet-less LAN in order to use IzzyCast or the RTMP Streamer actor or the Screen Capture actor to scrape a website, if Isadora followed my computer's network settings automatically then Isadora would be doing the opposite of what I'd actually want. 

There's some thought that needs to be put in here as to default behavior, dialogs, warnings, and what makes sense to allow automatically vs what should be required to be done manually. Overall I don't think it's ideal to have a workflow that involves switching between networks multiple times in the first place, so I'd want to just be able to manually select which network Isadora should use and I'd never want it to change anything about that automatically. This solves the major problem of the use case where I've got multiple networks running on my computer and need to disable all but one of them before launching Isadora to ensure that Isadora starts up and uses the network I want it to use, but I'm curious what workflows and use cases would involve needing to automatically switch between networks, or to switch between networks repeatedly.

Hi L, I ran into issues the other day when updating my Pipo sensors. Jumping onto the sensor's onboard wifi to input details for the router, then reconnecting to the router's wifi to set up the IP for the Pipo board to speak to Isadora. Also testing with various routers. I like to grab my IP from the settings menu of Isadora - it's quick and easy and if there was an 'update IP' button, then it would be more foolproof.

 Aha! I knew there had to be a use case I was forgetting about. This makes perfect sense.

There is also another problem with the IP address in Isadora preferences. If you use a VPN, you get the VPN Tunnel address ( e.g. 10.2.0.2) but not the real IP address you can see in system preferences (192.168......or something like that). For Touch OSC and co you need the 192. 168..... address. It would be fine if it was possible to see both. (By the way, it is the same problem with the Apple Shortcuts app. It shows also only the VPN and the external address but not the real address in the local network. Not really a problem; then you can find the correct address in the system preferences, but it would be nicer to have it in Isadora.

I've been looking back at feature requests to do with Isadora and its IP address setup and they go back decades, and nothing's been updated or changed.

I'm getting very frustrated when working on a machine with several network adaptors, to make sure that Isadora joins the right network with the right IP address.

Is there no way to bind Isadora to one adapter? Even better, isn't there a way to give Isadora its own static IP address? Everything else on my Isadora network that has a MAC address has a static IP:  cameras, switchers, projectors, etc. None of which connect if, on startup, Isadora decides to bind itself to the WiFi adaptor not one of the ethernet adapters. So I have to make sure to disable, eg, Wifi when I start up Isadora else it gets the wrong IP address.

Can I achieve this by hacking the preferences somehow? 

So just bumping up this recent thread and adding it to the many past requests to do with ip addresses :-)

 Unfortunately not. I believe Isadora binds to the first available device, which on PCs can change depending on config/build.

Do you want to start a support ticket, and I can dig into see if I can workout a workaround?
