Kinect + Isadora Tutorials Now Available
-
I think this method of connecting the Kinect to Isadora will not work on your OS version. No work around that I am aware of. -
Hi
I am trying to install the set up on windows 10\. There are a number of files which dont seem to available in the locations described.I cant find any of these files to add to tutorial folder “spout.pde” and “JSpout.java” as well as the folder called “code”Also I cannot locate the SimpleOpenNI library in processing 2.2.1 -
The newest spout release has changed a few things.
"Recent support from package managers provide Spout downloads within the user environment. For Processing, "Spout for Processing" is available as a contributed library."
quote from release notes. https://github.com/leadedge/
SpoutProcessing/releases The SimpleOpenNi Lib is linked directly from the tutorial (hosted in Troikatronix)
We will be updating the tutorial in the near future, hopefully this helps you in the meantime. -
Ok Ive got the spout library in as suggested by release notes but I dont know how to ammend the coding.
In Isadora kinect processing tutorial I get error messageCannot find a class ortypenamed "Spout"not being a programmer I dont know how to fix this -
Sorry, without going thru the entire install/setup I can't help at the moment.Do you have a Kinect V2? -
no Ive got originalkinect

I thought I would ask, since I was just about to post a tool I have built for using Kinect 2 with Isadora.
I will update this tutorial early in the new year. -
Hello,
I've just introduced the Kinect to my students, but it appears that the old tutorials for how to get it up and running have been wiped from the site?!
Has it lost the support of the Isadora community?
Thanks in advance for any/all response,Tra B

Those tutorials were taken offline because they were for Isadora 2 and an update to one of the other pieces of software involved made the tutorials no longer viable. (Also the method used was not viable for Isadora 3.)
For Isadora 3 we have the kinect modules in development.
I preserved the files you should need to get it running on Isadora 2 and posted them here: https://community.troikatronix.com/topic/6363/what-is-the-best-alternative-to-ni-mate-for-kinect-v1-on-osx-today

Dear FTP,
We have integrated actors that work with the Kinect in Beta. I am going to try to get these out before this Friday Feb 14, but I'm scrambling a bit to prepare a demo file. It might be Monday before it's ready.
Note: these actors are for Isadora 3 only.
That said, I will have @Woland make you a beta tester right now. You can then get access to what I hope to have out on Friday. You could tnen try out the plugin yourself and get ready to introduce your students to it.
Best Wishes,

Please read my line from above carefully: ...try to get these out before this Friday Feb 14, but I'm scrambling a bit to prepare a demo file. It might be Monday before it's ready.
I also need to record and edit a new tutorial tonight/tomorrow. I'll move as fast as I can but all of these thing take time.

aarrgh!! Is TroikaTronix really too small to be backed up by a programming team? Are you really doing all of this on your own? It is amazing if you are, but....#succession planning #expansion #sustainability #coderwellbeing #e.t.c

Currently yes, but our long-term plan is to save up enough capital to clone Mark seven times.

I thought the saying was “Good clones come to those who pay” 🤔

That is very on point. Let’s hope the OpenNi plugins provide a spike of healthy capital so TroikaTronix can go chasing those dreams...🔮

A decent programmer (meaning one with 75% of my skills) costs 80 Euros per hour in these parts (it's probably more in the USA.) That's around 150,000 EUR per year if they are working a 40 hour week. So yes, we are too small and I'm doing all the programming on my own. Thank goodness we have @xenia, @Woland, @DusX, @mc_monte and our dear @Michel handling sales, technical support, testing and the forum. Without them TroikaTronix wouldn't work at all.
Best Wishes,

In my experience TroikaTronix has a brilliant front end team. Apologies for the probing questions it feels a bit rude! 🐘
