which codec is good for isadora (if you don't have pro res as an option and don't want to use HAP)?

hi,

a very simple question but i cannot find the simple answer.

i need to export videoclips i edited in ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS 6 (version 6.0.0.) to use in ISADORA 2.5.3b05.

the shortest clip is 30 seconds, the longest 8 minutes, size 1920x1080, codec: apple pro res 422 HQ, with sound.

when exporting a clip, i am not able choose "apple pro res", it does not show up anywhere. and i don't know which other codec is the best for isadora.

these are my options: dpx, f4v, flv, h.264 (not recommended), jpeg, mpeg4, p2-film, png, quicktime, targa, tiff.

within quicktime the options are: animation, apple intermediate codec, apple pixlet video, bmp, cinepak, component video, graphics, h.261, h.263, h.264 (not recommended), jpeg 2000, mpeg-4 video, motion jpeg A, motion jpeg B, none, png, photo-jpeg, planar RGB, sorenson video, sorenson video 3, tga, tiff, uncompressed YUV 10 bit 4:2:2, uncompressed YUV 8 bit 4:2:2, video.

@anna_hd You can install the apple pro codecs (https://support.apple.com/kb/D...), but what is your hardware (CPu GFX Card), OS version and disk type for playback. And what are you exporting from and on what platform? Then we can give a more appropriate answer.

i want to export from ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS 6 (version 6.0.0.).

i edit on a MacBookPro which i also want to use for ISADORA playback. it has:

OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6

Processor: 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 4 GB 1333MHz DDR3

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB (as far as i understand, that is GPU)

is that the information you need?

Hello,

1) If you install FinalCutPro (even the trial version) or compressor, you will have the availability of all proRes in your export choice (you need some QuickTime codec installed with apple software). ProRes LT is a good compromise but Windows world is not very friendly for ProRes.

2) h264 is my favorite choice because I play video with nominal speed and GPU is good for that, quick to compress, not so heavy for disk, not so bad quality. You just have to choose the good setting. The regular export from FCPX is ideal, quick to compress and good for HD projection, but it's not in Premiere Pro…

3) Hap is a good codec but a little bit heavy, Hap alpha is useful when you need alpha layer

You can forget the other ones, too heavy (uncompressed…), too old or too bad (I remember cinepak and sorenson, rest in peace in codec graveyard…).

That's my twenty years experience with compression.
