[ANSWERED] Trying to hook a micro camera to a Mac

  • Hello, Everyone,

I'm trying to get my Mac to pick up a micro camera so I can send a live feed into Isadora. I've spent a day trying to find drivers online and nothing seems to work...I can't get my head around it seems. Anybody got any advice, or help? I'm pulling my hair out (what's left of it!) Thank you very much.

It is difficult for us to help if we don't know the brand of your camera and how you are connecting it to the computer.

    Hi Michel,

There is no identifiable brand on any of the cameras, they are small security cameras. I'm using a hdmi with a hdmi to mini port adaptor. Thanks.

You can't directly input an HDMI signal into your mac. You need a capture device for that. For example an Ultra Studio Mini Recorder. Make sure that the HDMI output of the camera matches the supported ones of your capture device.

Also this camera need power. HDMI doesn't has power connected to it that is sufficient enough for this kind of camera's. You will need an external power adapter or an device that correctly transmits the signal to valid HDMI.

could you please give us a picture of the connectors, that the cameras (Or other parts of the system) have? I'm pretty surprised, that these models have HDMI out. As far as I can tell from the pictures, these are analog cameras. Even if it tells HD at the Box. It says 700TVL (TV Lines) and PAL on the patches. And as far as my little knowledge goes for HDMI, the 4 Cables that comes out of the Cameras are not sufficient to deliver an HDMI digital signal. I already worked allot with those analog cams and they often say 'HD' only because they have some more TVL than others. But as back then, most of these little surveillance cams had only around 300 or 400 Lines instead of the default 576 PAL Lines, the 700 are a boost (for the PR machine at least ;-) ).
If you google 700TVL CCTV, you only find analog cams sending FBAS signal as well. But some are part of a surveillance system combined with a box, that puts all cam pictures of several separate cams together and gives the picture out to an HDMI port.

Maybe I'm totally wrong here, then I'm happy to learn something new!
