[LOGGED] import obj
-
I exported an .obj from Cinema 4D, but when I went to load it into Izzy, it woudn't import for some reason. I have the texture file saved in the same location as the obj (as stated in the guide I read). I also tried downloading a model online and importing--that didn't work either. When I click and drag nothing happens, and when I go to import media and bring up the finder, the obj doesn't even show up as a file I can import. (When I search, it doesn't appear because I guess it's just not an option.) What might be causing Izzy not to accept an obj? I'm using version 3 by the way.
Update: I found out 3ds files work, but not obj. Is there a reason for this?
Another part to my question: Can I layer other video content over the 3D player output? I can't seem to figure out how I can get the model to display over a background movie.

Hi,
The 3D workflow is due for an update, and that includes compatibility with modern 3D mesh file formats such as OBJ. @Mark is aware of this, but it is also important that you show that you would like to see the 3D modules overhauled. Make it a feature request that the compatible 3D Object Mesh file formats are updated and expanded to include more of the most common file types.
Best Wishes

@bonemap Thank you Russell for moving this to feature requests. I will continue to work with 3ds for now.

Hi,
Yes you can. Use the 'layer' properties to stack content when compositing.

That would be quite a relieve!

I'm still really interested to see if we could get a .obj as import file type.
Lots of people are struggling with .3ds files and importing them.

I'd also welcome an overhaul of Isadora's 3d capabilities, support for more filetypes being a necessary first step. Perhaps we could start a thread in feature requests to show the team what we'd like to see, and that there are users wanting better features for the 3d workflow. Personally, I would love a more intuitive camera system.
