Guru Sessions #9 and #10: Open Sound Control + Facilitating Remote Performance
-
The "guru sessions" are back this week!
Wednesday April 22nd - Open Sound Control
We'll dig deep into Open Sound Countrol (OSC), a protocol that allows Isadora devices and other programs to communicate with each other for real-time interactive control. We'll be using the OSC enabled apps TouchOSC (iOS/Android) and GyrOSC (iOS only) and FaceOSC (Mac/Win) during the demonstration. (TouchOSC and GyrOSC are not free, but I can highly recommend both for anyone seeking ways to sense a person's movement and orientation using a device.)
On Friday April 24th, we show how you can Isadora in tandem with NDI, Skype, Syphon and OBS to factiliate the creation of remote performances, where the performers might be scattered around the globe. Note that we will not cover OBS in complete detail, but there are many tutorials that will show you how to get started broadcasting with OBS.
Both live streams start at 6pm CEST/5pm GMT/12pm EDT/9am PDT. Download links for materials and links to the livestream will be provided in a separate forum post 10 minutes before the stream begins.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Best Wishes,

Hi Mark-this is exactly what I am trying to figure out right now so I definitely want to get in on the Guri sessions on OSC. It is 6:00 AM my time so I wonder if there is any way to get the links etc the night before? I’m really excited to join you for this. Fernanda

Excellent. I think it happens at 6am somewhere between L.A. and Hawaii. ;-)

Hey thats great! I did a few projects in the past with kinect and skeleton tracking but want to get up to date with the latest new deveoplements using Isadora 3.
Are recommendations for how to best prepare ahead of time, for Friday's session?

and FaceOSC
Hi, I have a patch that uses FaceOSC and I tried to transfer it a couple of days ago. I have it working just fine in MacOsX Mojave but have been unable to get it to work in MacOSX Catalina as yet. It is not about being notarised because I am able to get the app to launch - but the face tracking will not initialise. Just a heads up if anyone else is going to try FaceOSC on MacOSX 10.15x and happens to get it working- I would love to know how.
It could be that the app fails to initiate permissions to access the camera - perhaps?
Best wishes

Uh, Jamie, did I mention Kinect in my post? I wasn't going to do a session on Kinect until next week.

HI mark and thanks a lot for all "guru Sessions". I can't see in live because it's time for baby so I will look at replay. I ask my question here for maybe have an answer in the "guru sessions"
Hi, I have an User actor for mapping with touch osc. when the user actor is open I could modify value with touch osc but when I close the user actor I don't have the possibility to "save and update all" I have to modify something with the mousse for be able to save for all user actor. Did I miss something ?
Thanks again.
Best regards
ps : if some people want to test Osc patch I uploaded two patch and user actor with touch osc (one for mapping and one for follow spot) last week.

Great to see the Guru sessions continue
Can't be here today live as I am teaching myself, but watch the replay. Very interesting about FaceOSC! Can't wait to get my hands on it and experiment

I can answer this question now. Yes, you have to make some kind of modification to the User Actor, e.g., move an actor one pixel or enter a value. Values that change via interactive input do not cause the document to become "dirty" so that a save is requested. (This is true for the main document as well as User Actors.) Only manual changes made through the user interface will set this "dirty" flag and require you to save the file or the User Actor.

Thanks for the answer.
Have a nice day
