Syphon Virtual Webcam - Questions & Assistance
-
hi Mark,
i have OBS v23.1 installed, but probably installed v26 last Summer, and then uninstalled it and reverted to v23 when i discovered i couldn't use a Ninja link as a browser source. i usually use AppZapper to remove stuff, but it may have left something behind.
source image is 1280x800 to match the projectors we're using.
the Hungarian company said that they got a message onscreen saying something like Syphon Virtual Webcam has stopped working. it was a bit difficult to tell what was going on at the time because of the video freezing and me trying to work out what was going on. the message may have been generated by Ninja.
cheers,
john

It may not know about the location of the driver. It lives at
/Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
in any case, the v0.9.6 version of Syphon Virtual Webcam works with both the old driver and the new one from OBS 26.1. But if you really want to downgrade, then
- quit everything
- go to /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
- delete obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin
- and restart Syphon Virtual Webcam
In any case, thanks for the info. I'm a bit slammed at the moment, but I will see what I can find out as soon as I can.
Best Wishes,

@mark
i fixed another issue, which means i can use my iMac instead of my Macbook for this project - today, with the same setup on the iMac, SVW has been stable. thanks for the advice. i'll try it on my laptop at some point and report back. -
It's been a while since I've used Syphon, but I've used it successfully in the past. I just tried to get it up and going, but Zoom didn't recognize it. I followed the steps above to uninstall everything and started from scratch.
Now, when I try to open Syphon (to then re-install the OBS Virtual Cam), the icon appears on the dock, but the actual window doesn't appear. If I go to help>install OBS Virtual Camera Plugin it waits and then closes the Syphon app. I can't get any further. Any ideas?
Best,
Rory

It might not be compatible with macOS Sonoma
-
@woland I feared this might be the case

@woland Hahahaha
and getting NDI into zoom is still really pricey--I think I might just be stuck with this one

You could check and see if OBS's actual virtual webcam plugin for OBS has been updated to support Sonoma. You should be able to get Isadora or NDI output into OBS. That might be a path forward.

Appears to be a solution here: https://support.apple.com/en-u...
I'll be checking it out tomorrow

It may still be a solution, but not for me. I restored the legacy camera settings but no luck
-
It didn't work for me either.

Is there any plan of updating Syphon Virtual Webcam to work in Sonoma?
Does anyone know of another virtual webcam solution they would recommend?

An alternative could be NDI virtual input: https://ndi.video/tools/ndi-virtual-input/I've been using it for a while and it works great.

At the moment we are focusing on the (imminent) release of Isadora 4

Nice. Just bought my upgrade. <3

FWIW I have the same problem and I'm on Ventura 13.6.7.
I installed Syphon Virtual Webcam after already having the latest OBS installed and when I launch it the icon shows up in the doc, but no main window. Interacting with the Virtual Webcam in any way (like the help -> install OBS Virtual Camera Plugin) causes the program to close..Just a bit more info for debugging in case it's helpful
