Recode clips with HAP on Windows
-
Hi all.
Still a newbie to graphics and Isadora. I must say I am amazed by what this software can do, and often simply. Anyway my issue is about recoding video so its as efficient and transportable as possible. I have a multitude of clips in various formats, mov, avi, mp4 etc. I want to try to standardise these and have them usable on the various apps I have. HAP seems to be the way to go from what I have read across the forum but I am failing to find the codecs for Windows 10. Links from the hap video site are broken, and google is not being my friend.
I have ffmpeg and happy to use it but it doesn't have hap, loads of others, and I cannot seem to find a hap codec download other than the one for Quicktime. Am I missing something obvious due to lack of experience?
All and any assistance most welcomed.

Hi Clive,
Greetings from sunny London!
Isadora 3.x is supposed to install the HAP codec if it's not already present in your system.
If that's not happened, please check out this page where there's a link to the HAP direct show codec for windows:
https://support.troikatronix.c...
I am an Adobe user, and tend to use this solution to do my encoding:

But there's an interesting discussion about speed of HAP encoding here:

@mark_m Many thanks for this information, not sure how I missed that post. I have downloaded the file recommended and tried it with ffmpeg, but it only shows as decode with the ffmpeg -codecs command. Not sure where to go next.

Can't help you there, Clive, as I don't use FFMPEG, but @DusX may be able to give you a hand with that.

I prefer using Shutter Encoder, it does batch conversion, is cross platform, and very easy to use.

Do you think that the Shutter Encoder method is worth adding to the knowledge base article I quoted above?
This one?

@dusx Many thanks for this pointer. Must say that's an impressive piece of software, worth the donation for sure. I can now recode with ease, just to decide now what format to use as hap does increase file size quite a bit. Again thanks for all your help.

It does, (standard is the smallest of the Hap options), BUT it increases performance so much as well.
Probably not the best choice for full length movies though ;) -
@dusx That'll be a nuance I've yet to discover, so far I'm happy to get an image on the wall. :-)
Many thanks again.
Stay safe.
