RTMP Not Showing Up [SOLVED: Download from Add Ons Required]
-
Hi all !
I just installed the new version 3.1 and the RTMP plugin ... but it doesn't appear in the toolbox
(the rest of the new plugins appear correctly)
Any ideas ?

Can second that.Edit: Seems to be a Plugin which needs to be downloaded from the Add-ons. It's not as such written in the release notes. I find it a bit confusing to mix up new Add-ons with actual core software releases and put them together in the release notes.
It is even more confusing, as there only seem to be an Alpha version of it...

@dillthekraut it is in deed a plugin and in the release notes says it clearly. What is strange is that is no showing up after installing the plugin

It does on my MacBook after installation.
In the release notes it says indeed PLUGIN. There are several Plugins already in the so called Plugins folder, preinstalled with the basic isadora installation. Under the other Plugins and actors which are anounced, it is told if the actor needs to be downloaded or not. This isn't the case for the rtmp actor, although it is the first one named. All in all the words 'Actor', 'Plugin', 'Add-on', should be better defined. And it should be more clearly separated from an feature release and the notes in my opinion. And still it is named as beta, which adds to the confusion for a 'full feature release'.

First, the reason that the RTMP Streamer is an Add On and not included in the main program is because this plugin is probably going to take a few versions to refine. If it was in the main program, we would have to release a new version of Isadora every time we made a revision, which simply isn't practical. By choosing to make it an Add-On, we can make improvements at any time by simply releasing a new version of the plugin.
Second, to @DillTheKraut, I have read your feedback regarding the terms "actor, plugin and add-on" and everything else you said. We actually discussed those terms yesterday and went with what you saw on the page, but we will discuss the points you have made at our next team meeting.
But to clarify things in the short term, I've added (Download Required) next to each plugin that requires it.
I've also added a statement saying that the RTMP Streamer actor is in public beta. (There are about a zillion unforeseen ways users will try to use this actor, and there wasn't much feedback from the beta group about this plugin. Because of these factors, we need the flexibility to call it a beta until we're certain it can be used in mission critical situations even if the users do crazy stuff with it.)

Dear Mark maybe I did not express myself clearly ... my question was not about how to download and install a plugin.
my difficulty is that even having the plugin in my "package contents" it does not appear available to be used after being installed
Thanks again

Are you running the RTMP Streamer in v3.1? It requires 3.1 and later. It will not work in 3.0.8f12 and before.
And I'm not understanding what you're saying about "package contents"... can you explain more clearly?

@mark Yes Im running 3.1...what im trying to say is that the plugin is already installed and I can "see" it with all the others plugins, but im not able to use it. its not in the tool Box. [The read text from file and SRT Subtitle player are available andworks just fine]

What operating system version are you running? We are only guaranteeing Mojave and later. We have not tested with earlier operating systems.
