[LOGGED] Ideas for Sound Actors
-
Hi everybody,
it is a great pleasure to see the sound capabilities improving in every new version of Isadora. I think the routing capabilities of the Sound Player actor make a great improvement. I'm a Windows user and I was researching a lot how to use more than the standard Stereo output of Windows. This opens really new doors to creativity.
I'm not sure if I'm completely off the track you are on in developing the audio possibilities, but there is an idea that came to my mind concerning the sound. I thought of an actor similar to the Projector actor that I would call Speaker actor. Like the Projector actor it could be the link to a specific hardware device. This would involve a patchable (with the so intuitive red cables!) stream, let's call it audio-out/audio-in on the concerned actors: Sound Player, Video Player and on the not yet existing Audio In Watcher actor.
The idea behind is to reuse the patching capabilities that are so versatile, but in the middle of the Sound Player. If it were possible to have this tool accessible with cables and routable to different Speaker actors (that means in effect audio devices and/or channels), that would open a really new and huge world of creativity. I think of panning via the envelope actor, fading in and out and so on.
I see many similarities between processing video and processing sound. Here is a list of comparable actors that i imagine:
Video Fader - Audio Fader
Video Mixer - Audio Mixer
Video In Watcher - Audio In Watcher
What I also see in this (utopian) approach is the possibility to insert actors like filter, equalizer and compressor.
I enclose a picture of a patch that I imagine, which describes the usage of the "Speaker Actor".
Cheers to Mark and the team of developers,
gunther

long time ago I requested audio outs in movie players (for delay, or filtering etc.). The Idea of speaker actors is great!
thanks.
