[ANSWERED] atem mini and midi control
-
Hi!
I'm thinking about offloading some of the load of video switching to a dedicated piece of hardware, that I'd ideally be able to control via the midi out from isadora allowing me to create my scenes and any more exotic cuing or effects work there.
I'm aware that some people on the wilds of the internet have had some success getting the atem mini to play nicely with midi control panels so it shouldn't be a huge leap to get some midi outs from isadora to do the same.
but has anyone on here done it, and do you have any "best practice advice" or warnings? -
Personally I use AtemOSC for my Atem hardware, works great! See their website for more information http://www.atemosc.com/
-
I might be being dim but I can only find AtemOSC for macOS is there a windows version that I'm missing?
-
I don't know about a windows version. But you could try companion.
It has presets vor atem mixers an can be triggert by osc.
-
For Windows, I recently resorted to use Central Control program to control an 1/ME from an AKAI midi controller. It cost money but it worked.
With isadora you'd need a virtual port to connect to it. I used RTP midi in the past
Edit... you can just use OSC to communicate from Isadora to Central control

thanks folks. that's at least 2 angles to approach this from. If I'm successful I'll do a little update.

In theory it should be possible to control your ATEM with Isadora via OSC and Companion on Windows, but I've never managed to get it to work, probably due to my lack of knowledge of OSC.
Happy to help you get this going in any way that I can! -
I should also add that I've had total success using Kramer switchers such as the VS-42HDMI and VS-41H to switch HDMI sources from within Isadora using TCP/IP commands.
These things are dirt cheap secondhand and very reliable. If you go down this route I can give you all the assistance you might need to get it going.
Am just keen to get the ATEM going as an Isadora controlled switcher as a) it connects to the computer via USB and Isadora sees it as a webcam, so I can eliminate a Blackmagic Capture device from my setup and b) the ATEM is very good at taking a variety of input sources (eg 25p, 50i, etc) and sending a consistent 1080p signal out. -
I'm an absolute beginner with OSC but I've got Companion now so I'll start a few experiments over the next few days.
Expect MANY cries for help.

I had a slight frustration with Companion because it only works over a network connection and not via USB.
after a little more research I came across this prototype for a MIDI to ATEM program.
I suspect that this will be beyond my skill to configure properly but I thought I'd share it as a possible avenue.
