[ANSWERED] How to sync two movie players?
-
I am VERY new to Isadora. It is a very cool tool and will become a well used tool in my kit.
At this time, I need to start 2 movie players at EXACTLY the same time and keep them in sync.
I've been using "key watcher" and "enter scene" actors and sometimes they start (very close) together and sometimes there is a noticeable delay.Any ideas how to make them start in very good sync?
Thanks,
Ozzie

So there are multiple ways to do this; the most common used practice if you want them to be perfectly in sync is to make a bigger canvas for your movie file. So instead of 1920x1080 for example you make a movie of 3840x1080 and then use IzzyMap to cut out the Left / Right part. That way you will have 100% perfect sync ;)
Let's start with something more simple. It seems that your Movies are still loading when you enter the scene, in a scene before use the Preload Scene actor. This will load in the movies / make sure they are ready if you activate your scene.

what Juriaan said. but also you can make use of the Position input/output of your Movie players. its possible to run both movies at a speed of zero, but control the position with an envelope. a more sophisticated way is to use Michel's Syncvideo tool that works well if the movies are exactly the same length. it compares the position of each movie and adjusts them accordingly.

hi Ozzie
I had need to exactly what you are doing last year. In the end, @Juriaan method described above proved the best method to follow.
I used Michel's sync tool but I had issues with the audio sync (great tool nonetheless). Audio would stutter whilst the video would sync perfectly.
Overall, the @Juriaan method was the simplest and most secure to sync two or more videos. I ran my setup for 4 months with this method and I had no issues once set up.
Hope this helps.

Yes if both movies have sound its not the right tool. But if only the master has audio there is no problem.

oh, and the codec should be something like AppleProRes or HAP. h264 does not work so well with speed changes.
