clear video tutorial that explains how to projection map in Isadora?
-
Hello, I am considering teaching Isadora to my projection mapping students. They are college art students. I am looking for clear video tutorials for the students to learn this very basic function. It seems like this information is presented as a smaller segment in larger video webinars that cover many other topics e.g.https://youtu.be/mEWWxPE3ZkQ but not as a clear stand alone video. Digging around for information about a fundamental aspect use of the software is going to make learning this less enjoyable to students. I can find many tutorials for more advanced capabilities in Isadora but not basic projection mapping. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
I teach mapping in Isadora a lot. And I must admit, I have never used a tutorial. Most of the students learn it very quick by just doing it and making 'mistakes'.
This is how I teach it:
I give a small introduction of about 15 minutes and then its up to them to explore. I don't explain everything and let hem have fun while discovering it for them selves.
I usually only give a tour of the user interface.
Very important: explain what the difference between input and output is. (this is for most of the students the hardes part to comprehend)
Then show them what the difference is between the rectangle, triangle and composite (I usually don't explain grid in the beginning).
And explain how the composite works (input, output, add points, add or subtract a new shape,...) (I don't immediately explain all the curve options)
And than I let them try in the space on objects. They wil then start mapping and make a lot of 'mistakes' or making it very difficult. And I give more explanation along the way when I see a 'mistake' or see a quicker solution. So they learn form their 'mistakes'.
For example: they will place lots of dots for a curve. When they did that I'll explain the simpeler way that you can just put on curve. They say: "Ooh its that easy" and I hope the remember it better.
This way they don't have to wacht too long of an explanation and have fun doing it. And I have the impression they remember it better if they find it out by them self (with a little bit of help) instead of me giving all the information.
I also give them the link to the help page where there is a lot of info about izzimap:

With kind regards

This article was written for Isadora 2, but most of this is unchanged in Isadora 3 (Isadora 3 added a few things and improved some behaviors).
This article explaining the composite mapping method was also written for Isadora 2, but is also still relevant.
Best wishes,
