Hi I am experimenting with an Orbbec Pro depth camera to obtain data from dancer to process sound and visuals.

My question is could I measure a dance floor area in advance in order to obtain min and max distances and then make sure the dancer works within this predefined space?

This would avoid having to assess dimensions when the dancer is actually moving - which is tricky. Eg a 4 metres wide floor would mean the range would be from -2 (extreme left) to 2 (extreme right). Also, eg. the right hand might go from 0 (center) to +2 (far right). Does this make sense?

      Thanks a lot!

You can mark out the tracking area as a zone based on the information provided by the device data sheet:

        https://shop.orbbec3d.com/Astra-Pro

It provides min. and max. Active sensor range and the FOV in degrees. From these specifications it should not be too difficult to mark out a cone shaped active sensor area on your stage/plan in front of the intended camera position. You can then calibrate the OpenNi Tracker plugin inside your patch to correspond appropriately. However, you would still want to test the set-up and after a while you might get more familiar with the workable range. There will be limits where the dancers moving limbs will go outside the tracking camera area so you might consider an inside safe zone that provides best tracking performance and an edge zone that will still provide general position but might start to drop extremities.

        Best wishes

@bonemap Hi there! Thanks so much I will definitely look into this! By the way I'd like to produce a patch that enables the dancer's arms to work like paintbrushes and assign colours to skeleton points so each part can paint a stroke of colour on the screen. Going to look into some of your patches eg. audio bloom! Cheers, Dave
