I always worry that I'm missing something but I can't work out what's happened.  It doesn't need to be specially loaded, does it?

      Can anyone help, please?

I'm running version 3.1.1 under High Sierra

If you go to the Install folder of Isadora > Isadora Plugins you should have multiple files called JavaScript.

Please let us know which ones you have :)

          Thanks for getting back.

If you means the 'Isadora 3' folder in 'Applications', then all it has in it is the app itself - which I've deleted and then rerun the installer with the same result.  The only other plugins folder is one called 'IsadoraPlugins_x64' in 'Application Support', but it is empty as well.

One possibility is that you had an external plugin or User Actor called "Javascript - Matrix Fade" installed on another computer (where presumably you built this Isadora file) and when you moved the file to a different computer and tried to run it, it can't find the User Actor/External Plugin you used in the Isadora file because you didn't move the User Actor/External Plugin to the new computer along with the file.

            Best wishes,

              Thank you Woland.

That is an excellent piece of detective thinking, but even if it's the case, (which I'll check), the ordinary Javascript actor is missing from the Toolbox, (one of the screenshots shows all the available Actors that start with 'J').

It is not missing, but I can see why you'd think that. You assumed that the Toolbin search bar is a global search, but it actually searches the selected actor bin.

You searched the Video Effects actor bin for "J".

The Javascript actor resides in the Calculation actor bin.

If you double-left click in the Scene Editor (which is a global search and does search all actors regardless of which bin they're in) and type "j", you'll see the Javascript actor in that list as well

                Best wishes,

                Woland

Just looking at your screenshots, are you using the “Classic” theme on Isadora 3.1.1? If not, it looks like you’re using a version of Isadora 1, which could be the source of any number of problems. Could you please launch Isadora and go to Isadora > About Isadora and double-check that it says “3.1.1" on the resulting splash screen?

After performing the steps above, if it is for sure 3.1.1, please send in a support ticket using the link in my signature because this is unfathomably strange. It is not possible for the version of Isadora on the Get It Page to be missing the Javascript actor because it’s included in the main program installer.

                    Best wishes,

                    Woland

(P.S. One more possibility is that you’re running this on High Sierra, which is one version of macOS lower than Mojave, which is what is officially supported for use with Isadora 3, so perhaps there could be some incompatibility between High Sierra and Isadora’s 3.1.1's implementation of Javascript. If you have another computer with a newer version of macOS, please try downloading Isadora from the Get It Page and installing it on the other computer to see how Javascript behaves for you there.)

Since I still have High Sierra on one hard drive, I could try: from version 2.6.2 to 3.1.2b8 I have the Javascript actor.
The Isadora interface probably looks like this because @interluder uses the Classic Theme.

                      best

Thanks for checking that out. There's definitely something fishy going on here then.

I am running 3.1.1 using the Classic Theme and it's true that I'm running it under High Sierra.

Can I get the Beta of 3.1.2, perhaps and try it out?

Unfortunately, since using High Sierra with 3.1.1 is already unsupported, I don't think the beta would solve this.
