User Actor causes Isadora Crash?
-
Hi there.
I recently have begun working with Isadora for a production I am working on. I was trying to create a scene where a generator affects movie playback position. When I created a user actor, then deleted is as it was unneeded. I suddenly noticed a ton of issues with my movie playback node. When I restarted Isadora, I was unable to view any scene in my scene editor, and trying to close out of Isadora would crash it.
Would anyone know a solution to this? It's really troubling to imagine a file I'm working on could suddenly corrupt like this, especially if in the future I have a much larger project I'm working on.

If you are willing to share your file, I suggest opening a support ticket (link in my forum signature). I will take a look at your file and try to determine what the cause is.
It is possible that moving your media files to another folder, and re-open the file might help... since you mentioned a generator effecting playback. Are you using HAP videos for this? If you are doing this with MP4/h264 that could be the cause.
I will watch for you support ticket. -
@dusx Thank you for the speedy response. I appreciate all the suggestions as I'm still new to this software.
I could try doing the solution you suggested. Do you mean moving the movie files to another folder? Or moving the entire project?
As for HAP videos, I've only been using MP4 files. Is this a file format I should avoid in my projects?

MP4 files
MP4 files are designed for forward playback. The way the compression works requires the loading of sequential frames. If you will be playing a video in reverse or scrubbing its playback (moving the position input) you want to use HAP. Hap is by far the best format for interactive playback. It is much larger however, so long files will be large. So Mp4 is useful for standard/forward playback of long movies etc.
You should be able to just move the movie files, then reopen the Isadora file (skip relinking the missing media) then see if your files behave as expected.
