I'm just putting this here as it perhaps deserves its own post, beyond a reply.

Shutter Encoder is a free video encoding app for batch encoding video.

For those people looking for an alternative to MPEG streamclip (ie, something that still works) or Adobe Media Encoder (ie, something away from the techo-feudalist subscription mode)- then this looks like it could be a great tool!
