[SOLVED] NDI Multiple Outputs
-
Hey everyone — I'm back to the 3x3 video wall and trying to see if it's possible to get all of the outputs sent from my two networked macs:
Mac Studio M2 Max, 2023, 64GB Sonoma 14.6
Macbook Pro M1 Max 2021, 64GB Sonoma 14I'm sending 4 stages (1920x1080) from the MacStudio to the Macbook Pro via NDI. The Macbook pro has a display link tripple tap from pluggable, plus I'm outputting via hdmi adaptor one of the thunderbolts. Frame rate, load — all look great. When I look at the incoming NDI signals on NDI Video Monitor, they look great. But when I output stage on izzy it does nothing but stutter.
Scratching my head here and haven't found any recent threads on this. Any thoughts?

Can you describe the full setup in a little more detail? What displays are connected to which computer and how many? Are you using a wired network for the NDI? (You should not be using WiFi for this.) You said you're using two computers to try to get all your outputs, and I think I can infer that the Macbook Pro is the one that is stuttering, but since you didn't specify, you could also be saying that the Mac Studio is the one stuttering, or that both computers are stuttering. What is the exact "display link triple tap" you are using? (Sometimes the kind of adaptors you use can affect things.)
If you're using the same system you described in your previous post for live capturing the same feed twice using a splitter, crossfading between video files continuously, and now outputting/receiving NDI plus driving multiple displays, you may be running into a hardware limitation because of how much the computer is trying to do simultaneously.

@woland thanks for the response! I think you may be right about hardware limitation. I did get it to work though! I am indeed doing the live delay that I posted about previously, which is why I ended up shifting to a three computer setup. Now the macbook pro does nothing but process the live video delay and send out a single 4k NDI stage including all 9 stages (I had previously been sending out several different NDI stages to the Mac Studio) to the other two computers, which then uses the chopper tool to output to the video wall. Working pretty well actually!

Awesome to hear! Yeah, distributing the work based on which computer(s) are the beefiest is one of the best ways to optimize performance when running video between multiple computers.
