Advanced blending when projectors are at strange angles
-
Ok I was working on a project last week and a problem came up that required a "creative workaround" but I'm wondering if there is another way that I hadn't understood.
Here's the situation.
I had a very large projection surface that had a 3 dimensionality to it (it was made of large triangles in a pleasing low poly landscape kind of way)
I'd rigged 4 projectors to cover the whole screen.
2 downstage that covered the upper half
2 upstage to cover the lower half.
The 2 upstage projectors were at a steep angle so that performers could get close to the screen without casting a shadow.
It seems like the blend maker in stage set-up cannot handle this orientation. I could not get everything to line up properly with each other no matter what I did.
I need the keystoning of the upstage projector to go a little beyond the bounds of what would actually be projected. Blend maker can't do this
So in the end I made a user actor which had a bunch of projector actors in it that mapped each of the 59 triangles that make up the wall to the most convenient projector.
But it's there a better way?

What you did is probably how I would do it.
Could you please send in a ticket using the link in my signature with a screen recording where you show Stage Setup and more clearly narrate and show the roadblock you're hitting within the keystoning? I get the general idea, but I want to understand more precisely so that I can accurately log this as a feature request.
