Also make sure you are using the right video format/codec. Some .mov files will not play on Windows machines but obviously will on Mac.

Whilst investigating a bug, I came across this useful post regarding Legacy Codecs in 10.8\. The key information is now in the "this answered my question" portion right under the original question. (Thank you to the user Kiod, whomever you are.) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3503820?start=0&tstart=0 To wit: In Lion or Mountain Lion, you have to specify what codec you want to enable:

For PNG as an example, open Terminal and type:

qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs ApplePNG enabled

if you are curious about other codecs use:

qtdefaults read InstalledLegacyVideoCodecs

This will give you a list of all the legacy codecs whether they are enabled or not. Find the name of what you want and replace the codec name part in the write formula above and you're set.

For the full help menu of qtdefaults just type:

qtdefaults

My addition to this list is, to find out if a codec is enabled or disabled, enter the following in the Terminal: **read LegacyVideoCodecs CODEC-NAME-HERE** On a related note, in case people want it, you can always have QuickTime 7 around by downloading it and installing. Hi All, Been co-helping a user along with Mark and we have a question that some of you may be able to help with. Do any of you have the latest MacBook Pro retina? Not early 2013 but the one that came out just 2/3 months ago. I can find exact models shortly. But basically the newest you can get. Secondly are you running mavericks 10.9? Thirdly do you have to core video upgrade? Quartz composer, etc? If you can answer yes to all these questions then we would love to talk to you and perhaps do a few quick tests for us? Basically, we are hearing reports (from a reliable user) that Isadora is behaving very strangely and so is Quartz Composer. We would like to get a second and or third opinion just to quantify and verify this. Has anyone else had any problems with the above? Thanks.

I am pretty sure after a few days of running a video a machine will go slow. Does it not start/stop each night? Basically the RAM just needs flushing out and restarting is the easiest way to do it. My machines in the museum (as above) turn off and start up each day - as long as there is not a power cut! ;) They run fine 99% of the time.

Thanks for the tip about "image to video" and "video to image".  By changing my entire scene to "video", taking out all the core actors, I actually ended up making the scene in question run smoothly.

The movies are all on a PC and all the audio is on the Qlab Mac, just the LTC file is on the PC within the movie, we tried splitting out the LTC file from the main movie but then it was de-synced from itself, though im not sure i tried preloadng them both, Ill look at that later.  Luke

I found stages 2 & 3! They were underneath my Izzy control panel window. I think I know what happened. In my studio I use a 27" monitor but I keep the Izzy control panel the same size as my 13" laptop so that it "looks & feels" right when I perform. I move the stage 1, 2 & 3 windows over to the right and I do image editing in two other windows. Usually I would move the stage 1,2 & 3 windows back on top of the Izzy control panel window before shutting down. I think I've done this before and the Gather Displays command in 10.7 would "find" all the Izzy stage displays for me. I cannot remember for sure. Anyway I am back to "normal". Thanks for your comments.

What is the resolution of the video you are attempting to play? If you are running Windows natively on the mini Mac, then I would suggest that you enable the "Play Windows Movie Formats Natively" in the preferences and convert your movies to AVI or WMV. You'll see a big improvement in performance. Best Wishes, Mark
