Isadora 3.1.1 on macOS Monterey or Windows 11
-
Dear Community,
Someone was asking about macOS Monterey compatibility on the Facebook Group yesterday. We actually addressed these new operating systems pretty clearly in the Isadora 3.1 Release Notes:
Isadora 3.1 and macOS 12.x (Monterey) + Windows 11
- Isadora 3.1 adds preliminary compatibility for macOS 12.x (Monterey).
- Isadora 3.1 is not yet considered to be compatible with Windows 11.
- We have already begun our work to ensure compatibility with these two new operating systems.
- If you are running macOS 12.x (Monterey) or Windows 11 and would like to give us feedback on Isadora's performance on these new operating systems, please open a new support ticket asking to take part in our beta testing program.
Here's a bit moe detail.
We were running Isadora 3.1 on Monterey beta as soon as it was available (mostly on ARM based machines), and those tests showed that everything seemed to work normally. But we spent most of our time testing on the versions of macOS that we support: Big Sur (Intel and ARM/M1), Catalina and Mojave. In other words, we think Isadora 3.1 is OK on Monterey, but we haven't had a chance to go beyond the most basic overall tests.
@DusX has been putting some hours in with Isadora 3.1 on Windows 11 and hasn't come up with anything significant. However, the amount of testing he was able to do before the release was very limited. For that reason, we chose to be cautious by saying that 3.1 is "not yet considered to be compatible with Windows 11."
The bottom line, as usual, is to hold off on upgrading to these latest operating systems for mission critical work. On the other hand, we think macOS Monterey should be fine in a teaching environment and probably the same is true of Windows 11.
We'll be putting more time into these latest iterations of macOS and Windows in the coming weeks. We post an update in a few weeks once we know more.
Best Wishes,
Mark -

Personally, I'd also like to stress this part of the message.
