Hi! I am about to order a depth camera and have read all the details in Skeleton Tracking in Izzy 3 with OpenNI Tracker.

The Orbbec Pro seems good though doesn't support Mac. However, I've read it works with Izzy but not with OpenNI Tracker.

The Intel D435 also good but not as reliable although higher frame rates! The D455 has greater range.

I want to track one or two dancers (no more). I am aware the cabling and power supply are also factors.

Please can someone advise which one to go for?

The first consideration relating to the Isadora OpenNi Tracker and Mac is that it is not going to be compatible with M1 /Apple Silicon based machines. But with a good Intel Mac it is going to work. I have two Orbbec cameras an Astra Pro and an Astra Mini, both work very well on Intel MacBook Pro 16” 2019 model and Mac Pro trash can 2013 model. The Astra Pro provides depth and RGB camera feeds straight into Isadora via USB bus powered ports, so no need for additional power. The range is comparable to Kinect first generation. The Astra SDK no longer supports Mac however @Mark was able to use the legacy SDK to make it work with the OpenNi implementation in Isadora for Intel based machines.

A cheaper option is the Kinect camera if you can find one (make sure it is a compatible model) and the requisite power supply that includes the USB interface. These work reliably with the OpenNi Tracker too.

        Best wishes

        Russell

It runs if you use Rosetta though :)

Is there somewhere a list of all the things working with intel Mac and not with M Mac?

            thanks

@woland Thanks all! I think the best way forward is to get the Orbbec Astra Pro and if/when i get new mac it seems rosetta opens automatically when an intel compatible app is opened. My old laptop will apparently work (thanks Russell) fine so I can always resort to this one. I might even consider using this with my projector as a stand alone set-up and use my new Mac for audio with an Ableton Link connection keeping it in sync with the Isadora/visual platform.

              Does this seem sensible?!

              Cheers, David
