>8 audio outputs Mac OS [FIXED in 4.0.2]
-
Hi,
I need to output multiple channels of audio from Isadora 4.0.1 on an M1 Mac OS 11.7.10 (same problem also with different M1 Mac OS 12.1). I am using a Fireface UC audio interface which has 18 outputs.
Whatever I try, Isadora can only see the first 8 audio outputs of the audio device. I can confirm that other software running on the same computers can see all output channels. Even when I create a Mac OS aggregate device that includes the Fireface UC, then select that aggregate device in Isadora, only the first 8 channels are accessible.
Is there an option somewhere in Isadora I don't know about that can unlock more than 8 audio output channels? Or is this an intentional limitation of Isadora 4? I cannot find any reference to this in the documentation or previous forum posts.
Many thanks in advance.
Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan!
If you click on the second button, next to the yellow text it will open up the Audio dialog setup. Could you attach a screenshot of that dialog as well?
Because it seems that this device only has 8 outputs, according to the operation system

Hi Juriaan,
Thanks for your reply. Here is the screenshot of the Fireface UC Audio MIDI setup:
And a screenshot of an aggregate device I created with more than eight channels, but causes the same problem for me in Isadora (only first eight channels available):
As I said previously this is quite strange to me because all other audio software can see the full 18 inputs and 18 outputs of the Fireface UC. For example, in Reaper:
Thanks.

Same problem with RME Digiface USB. Only the first 8 of the Digiface's 32 outputs are accessible by Isadora. Mac OS Audio MIDI Setup groups the Digiface and Fireface UC inputs/outputs into streams of 8 channels. I wonder if Isadora can only work with a single stream, and hence only 8 input/output channels, despite more streams being available?

Hi there, Mark, creator of Isadora here. Can you verify in both cases that the number of outputs you are able to see matches the number of inputs available on the device? If so, then it's a bug and I will fix it for the next release. (We'll also contact you off forum to try a beta to see if it addresses the issue if this is the case -- I don't have any hardware that has a different number of inputs than outputs.)
Best Wishses,

@mark Tomorrow, I'll do some testing with my Midas MR 18 that has 18 in and 8 out (6 aux + 2 main) and report.
All the best

Hi Mark,
I can confirm the following:
RME Fireface UC:
18x total inputs
18x total outputsRME Digiface USB:
32x total inputs
34x total outputsFor both devices above, Isadora can only access the first 8 output channels.
Many thanks for looking into this.
Jonathan.

This seems to have been resolved in Isadora version 4.0.2. Many thanks to Mark and the team for looking into this.

Thanks Johnathan for the quick feedback when I sent you the possible fix. Glad to know this is working. ;-)
