HAP codes in SD
-
Hello Vanakaru,
thanks for your post. Since Mark recommended in his writings ("optimizing for speed") DV-codec for PAL-resolution I chose this. I actaully wanted to use HAP, since I read it is very good for live visuals, but I did not want to go higher in resolution, to save performance. You think this could work? I am scratching, sizing and having effect at the same time.Greetings Niklas

Do refer to this
http://troikatronix.com/support/kb/optimizing-for-speed/This is written 2012\. Something has changed since. But you really need to test. Try v.2 it should give you everything except saving the project if try demo.My experience is that you can run 3 full HD movies in ProRes 30fps on MBP 4.1 pulling from internal SSD. -
Dear niknaim,
I don't know if you're going to get better scrubbing with HAP actually. HAP performs really, really well under Windows because their GPU drivers are better than Mac OS. It performs OK on Mac OS, but the data bandwidth is actually relatively high. And it takes a long time to compress them.If you have an SSD, i think you might go for Apple Pro Res. It's high bandwidth in terms of the amount of data, but very fast to decompress. Also, Photo JPEG is still our friend in terms of lowbandth and decent image quality. Finally, make sure to read this more recent document:http://troikatronix.com/support/kb/izzy20-playback/especially the "Understanding the new Optimize input" part and the stuff about the playback systems.Best,Mark -
Just to set this clear. I am on windows.

..And as it seems you scratch your videos, maybe take a look at this too :

ok, thanks fifou. Yes I scratch them according to the sound level watcher. I will try it with the multiblocker.

I am still trying to find the right codec for my windows machine. Since "scratching" means interactivity I guess the photo-jpg is the best one. But how do I get it? Is the only chance to my quicktime pro? I just cannot find it anymwhere. If motion-jpg is the the same codec its still hard to find. Does anybody have experience with avi?
-
Avoid avi if you can. It's an old wrapper and performs poorly in my tests. As for pjpeg it available by default in every qt based video editor I have ever used. A free one is batch from livid. I have used it many times.

Thanks for all your answers. I tried some and had best performance still with dv. Now I want to try small HD (1024x768), but on my windows machine I cannot create Pro-Res, its only creatable on Mac. Is there any alternative to ProRes for small HD?

sorry, I got mixed up with the resolution description. The resolution I want to get is 1280x720

so, finally I got everything working with 1280x720 in photo-jpg, compression setting 80%.
Full HD goes too much down in framerate in photo-jpg. -
I would try HAP.
